Changes in DNA Exonerations Over Time

Misconduct: More Information, More Cases

We've finished data collection for a major study of official misconduct in the first 1,367 exonerations in the Registry, and have added more detailed information on misconduct for all 1,773 exonerations. Data analysis begins now; the results will be reported over the next two years.

Along the way, we identified misconduct that we didn't know about in a significant number of cases. As a result, the proportion of Registry cases with official misconduct just jumped from 47% to 52%.
