Plein Air Painting?
What is "Plein Air Painting?" Well just looking at the words you would think it might have something to do with painting in the open air. You would be right. This is our abbreviation of "En plein air" which is a phrase borrowed from the French equivalent meaning "open (in full) air." It is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors, also called in French: peinture sur le motif ("painting of the object(s) or what the eye actually sees"), where a painter reproduces the actual visual conditions seen at the time of the painting.
This is what I did along with about seven other artists from the Lakeland Art Guild on February 20th. We had permission to paint at the Imperial Lakes Golf and Country Club in Lakeland. So we all rented carts, loaded our painting equipment on our carts and found a place to paint for a couple of hours. It was a great day, beautiful weather and I created two finished paintings.
I hope you like these paintings I created "En Plein Air."
