Thank you to the 90+ supporters who joined our Town Hall Zoom last night. To summarize, our effort to Keep Stanford Wrestling is moving into a new phase. No longer is our mission just about preserving and endowing our sport. Our mission is now part of a much larger platform: preserving the integrity of all collegiate athletics at Stanford by reversing a decision built on false promises, faulty economics, and worse execution.
And we have a bigger group of supporters standing with us: 36 Sports Strong. 36 Sports Strong is a group of Stanford's finest and most successful athlete alumni, who are appalled by this decision and calling for an immediate reversal. Like us, they've uncovered the facts, specifically that Stanford, with a $6.8 billion annual budget and $29 billion endowment, eliminated nearly a third of student athletes on campus to save a mere $4 million. And, after those cuts and after COVID-19, the financial problems of the athletic department not only continue... they grow.
What can you do?
Read, download and share this presentation from last night's Town Hall Zoom, which includes the data we've uncovered.
Write letters or send emails to Stanford Faculty, a powerful force on campus. We've prepared a template you can use here.
Continue to pledge to our endowment campaign, strengthening the case that wrestling and other non-revenue sports at Stanford can support themselves.
Thank you for all your support, energy and hard work. Please be sure to follow the team today as they compete against Cal Baptist (12 PM PST) and Cal Poly (2 PM PST).
