First and foremost, please mark your calendars for Sunday, April 18 at 6:00 PM (PST) for our next Town Hall Zoom. That call will include a detailed discussion about this week's 36 Sports Strong (36 SS) meeting, as well as our strategy moving forward. Connection details are listed at the bottom of this section.
The 36 SS leadership met with President Marc Tessier-Lavigne, along with the provost, the athletic director, the head of development, and several trustees on Tuesday. The meeting was the first since the July 2020 announcement to include the president and was generally productive. The intent of the meeting was to inform him, the board, and senior administration on our proposal to reinstate and self-fund the 11 eliminated sports, including wrestling. His plan is to confer with his board over the next few weeks before making a decision on whether or not to reinstate the programs to varsity status. You can read about the meeting in The Stanford Daily, the San Francisco Chronicle, or The Mercury News.
While short of a full reinstatement, this meeting was a step in a positive direction, the first we've experienced in the last nine months. Your voices, your letters, and your pledges to endow wrestling are behind this crack in Stanford's defense. Like any wrestling match, when your opponent shows signs of fatigue and/or doubt, it's time to push harder! Please, if you haven't already, get to KeepStanfordWrestling.com and 36SportsStrong.org and follow the instructions on how to make your voice heard. Both sites provide email templates to help minimize the time commitment required to contribute to the effort. Share with your friends. Don't let up!

"Let us never stop fighting FOR THE FAMILY and for what is right. I look forward to continuing to help in the battle to KEEP STANFORD WRESTLING and take comfort in knowing that our family is in very capable hands as it continues to persevere through these times." --Jason Borrelli
Congratulations to Jason Borrelli on being named the head wrestling coach at American University! We're sorry to see him go, but we're grateful for the time he and his family dedicated to Stanford Wrestling. Thank you for the 13 years spent developing our young men to be better wrestlers, students, and people!
Coach Borrelli's departure is a stark reminder that individuals will be forced to make difficult decisions in the near future. Rather than get discouraged by the loss of good people, we ask that you voice your frustrations to the university leadership for its unwillingness to address this issue in a timely manner.
The fight to reinstate Stanford's varsity wrestling program will continue as long as necessary because it's bigger than any one person. Individual proximity to the problem may change, but the bond remains. The current squad knows this. The alumni and supporters of the program know this. Soon the university leadership will realize it as well.
How You Can Help
This is our opportunity to preserve the legacy of Stanford Wrestling for future generations. With that in mind, please take as many of the following actions as you are able:
Email (big, red button) the Stanford Board of Trustees from the updated KSW.com.
Engage Stanford faculty on the decision to cut athletic programs. We've prepared a template you can use here.
