Pac-12 Sweep

This Cardinal squad continues to impress as it swept the Pac-12 wrestling awards for 2021. Shane Griffith (165) was named Wrestler of the Year. He is a two-time recipient of the honor, having earned the award in 2020. Griffith is 40-1 in his collegiate wrestling career, including an NCAA title from this past season.

Jaden Abas (149) was recognized as the Newcomer of the Year. He is just the sixth Cardinal wrestler to be given the award. Abas is also only the fourth freshman All-American--Griffith and Real Woods (141) being the most recent--in program history.

Finally, Jason Borrelli was honored as the Coach of the Year. This is the second time in three years that Borrelli has been named Coach of the Year. He last garnered the honor when the program captured its first Pac-12 team title in 2019. A more detailed release can be viewed here.

Strength in Numbers

You may or may not have noticed, but the KSW effort has inspired some familiar faces. Save Stanford Fencing recently completed their 2021 season at the National College Fencing Championships, where they had four freshmen (Donghwan Park, Irene Yeu, Haley Koo & Joy Yun) earn All-American honors. Additionally, Save Stanford Field Hockey is currently undefeated at 4-0, while already having won an NFHCA academic team award for posting the nation's second highest team GPA (3.83). Competitive excellence, anyone?
