Hello VSSN Friends!                                                                        Oct 2015

We had a very busy month here at the Voluntary Sector Studies Network! It is an absolute pleasure having the opportunity to connect with such a wide variety of community members across Saskatchewan. It is your insights, knowledge, and experience that helps guide the VSSN to better serve the province.

Strategic Planning update
At the end of September we held an exciting full day workshop with facilitator Erin Campbell Howell to explore the VSSN's vision, mission and values. Work will continue in the Steering Group this fall to finalize the strategic plan. Also, work on the Certificate is coming along and is informed by the results of a survey on course priorities that was distributed to the Network.   We expect the course list to be finalized this week and the university approval process to begin immediately following.

New VSSN Coordinator
On behalf of the VSSN, we say good-bye to Angela Tremka as she moves to the Community Initiatives Fund and extend a warm welcome to our new VSSN Coordinator, Jennifer Billan. Jennifer has been actively involved in community projects throughout her studies and recently completed her Masters in Health Sciences through community-based research. Jennifer is excited to help VSSN's initiative connecting voluntary organizations across Saskatchewan with our campus!
Career Fair
VSSN is continuing to make direct contact with students and other organizations! On September 28th we attended a Career Fair and talked to approx. 160 students about the vast number of job opportunities available in the non-profit/voluntary sector. We showcased a number of databases on the VSSN website where students can go to search for jobs in the voluntary sector. You can locate this database here.
New Steering Group
Student Representatives

The VSSN would also like to extend a warm welcome to our new Steering Group Student Representatives! Please join us in welcoming Ruth Easton, Johann Morhart, and Brooke Schaeffer - we are very excited to work with you all! The dynamics of our Steering Group include one third of students, one third of community members who work in the non-profit sector and one third of faculty/staff administered out of Luther College at the University of Regina.
Volunteer Fair
On October 21st we attended a Volunteer Fair and talked to approx. 115 students and volunteer organizations about volunteer opportunities in the non-profit/voluntary sector. We showcased a number of databases on the VSSN website where students can go to search for volunteer opportunities in the voluntary sector. You can locate this database here.
