Dissolution of Parliament

As I’m sure you know, there is going to be an election on 12th December. This means that from midnight tonight, Parliament is officially dissolved, and there are no Members of Parliament until the election. I will be re-standing as the Conservative candidate for Mid Dorset and North Poole in the election and it has been my privilege to represent the area that my family and I call home.

There are very clear rules about what happens during dissolution. I can continue to help constituents with urgent casework so if you have an issue that you need help with, you can still get in touch, and my senior caseworker Laura and I will see what we can do. Government departments are still functioning as normal, so if you have specific problems or issues, please do get in touch. I will be acting on your behalf as a candidate, rather than an MP, but I am still here to help. If you need assistance with casework, please call my office on 01202 624216 or email

Thank you for signing up to my online newsletters. To keep up with my activities, please keep an eye on social media.

Dorset & Poole hospitals receive funding for new equipment to fight cancer

Michael welcomes new funding announced for local hospitals in Dorset and Poole for new cancer scanners and machines as part of a £200 million investment in the NHS.

The new equipment at Poole and Dorchester hospitals as part of the NHS’s Long Term Plan, is part of the Government’s commitment to improving cancer survival rates with earlier and more effective diagnosis. The new machines will be equipped with the latest AI technology and will have lower radiation levels. They are quicker to use and reduce the need to re-scan.

Michael said “I am delighted with this funding for the NHS in Dorset. The Government has invested significantly in our NHS and this is a practical example of what this funding delivers. This will be great news for residents in Dorset and I will continue to call for Dorset to receive the funding it needs to continue delivering world class care.”
Michael Tomlinson invites Rail Minister to visit Wareham level Crossing

Michael Tomlinson met with Transport Minister Chris Heaton-Harris MP to press for improvements to the level crossing at Wareham station.

Michael has met recently with Dorset Council as well as local Councillors and members of Wareham Town Trust to find a solution that ensures good access across the railway line and keeps the public safe. The concerns discussed at that meeting were raised with the Minister and Michael urged the Department to make progress and find an outcome that is acceptable to the community. Michael invited the Minister, who agreed, to visit Wareham and see the situation for himself.

Michael said “I am grateful that the Transport Minister for his time and for his agreement to visit Wareham and see the level crossing in person. This is a matter of significant concern to the community of Wareham and this has been left unresolved for too long. I made the point clearly that an acceptable solution is required that does not split the town in half. I urged the Minister to meet with local residents and Dorset Council to hear their suggestions.”
