Worship Service

Praise in Giving: World Budget/Disaster & Famine Relief
Greed. One lady returned home from a difficult hospital stay to find that her greedy children, who thought she would never be able to return, had cleaned out her apartment. Naturally she was devastated. Can you imagine such awful selfishness? Greed is a terrible thing, and the world is full of it. No one likes to be around a greedy, grasping person. The opposite, of course, is generosity. How we love people who are large-hearted and generous! They reflect God’s character of generosity and are a blessing to all. Do you aspire to be a generous person, more concerned about the needs of others than your own needs? Then follow the example of Jesus. See Him lift up the downcast and heal the afflicted. Watch Him feed 5,000 and even raise the dead. Jesus is exhibit A of a totally unselfish person. Oh, how I want to be like Him! Of course, that’s what stewardship is all about. God entrusts us with means for the sustenance of our families and those around us, as well as for His wonderful soul-winning work.

Mission Ministry

Making Connections

The death of 2 students at Mamawi Atosketa Native School, a Seventh-day Adventists mission school for First Nations children in the Canadian province of Alberta, Canada, had a huge impact on Darlene Thiessen. She wondered what impact she might have had on the boys. Did they see the love of God through the school? Did the school give them enough that maybe they cried out to God in their last moments? The boys’ premature deaths reminds Darlene every day that she wants to bring students to Jesus. She wants them to have a relationship with Jesus that will change their lives. Once Darlene joined an ADRA mission trip to Mozambique. She told her third grade class. One little girl, Tiandra, started misbehaving because she thought Darlene had abandoned the class and wasn’t coming back.

Tiandra ended up in the principal’s office due to her misbehaving. When asked why she had misbehaved, she exclaimed, “Haven’t you heard of separation anxiety?” When Darlene returned from the mission trip, she spent a day at home getting over jet lag. The principal called with someone to talk to Darlene. Tiandra asked when Darlene was coming back. Upon hearing Darlene’s answer of “Tomorrow.” Tiandra replied “OK” and everything was OK, no more misbehaving. Last year the third-grade students fell silent when Darlene told them about Jesus dying on the cross. One little boy, with awe on his face, asked “He did that for me?” As a teacher, Darlene and fellow teachers have many little moments where they can show children the love of Jesus. Darlene wants to bring students to Jesus. She doesn’t want to miss an opportunity to have an impact on a child for eternity. Thank you for your mission offering.
