Hello Stonehill Church Family,
We look forward to worshiping with you this Sabbath!
An arborist once explained to me why it’s important to remove the dead branches from trees: not only might they fall on people and animals below, but when storms come, the living parts of the trees are more likely to be damaged because of the drag of the dead branches. Life is hard, and we, too, are buffeted by its storms. Why carry about dead wood from the past that doesn’t contribute to our growth and tears at our spirits? When we hold hatred and resentment in our hearts, we may have little effect on the other person – but we do great harm to ourselves. –Signs of the Times, The Power of Forgiveness

Some families who struggle to bring a gift to God’s cause purchase expensive furniture or costly clothing. “Our birthday, anniversaries and Christmas and Thanksgiving festivals are too often devoted to selfish gratification, when the mind should be directed to the mercy and loving-kindness of God. God is displeased that His goodness, His constant care, His unceasing love, are not brought to mind on these anniversary occasions. The year 2017 is about to pass to the annals of history. More celebrations are around the corner. Families will gather, trips will be taken, and gifts will be given to friends and loved ones. What could your family, small group, or church do differently to honor the Lord in a unique way this year? Maybe a family in need can be adopted, or a special offering can be brought to church, or the education of an orphan can be covered overseas. What is the Lord telling you to do? May you be blessed as you give generously to your local congregation and consider becoming a channel of blessing to others.

My husband and I live near an Adventist church. Each week I would see people walking along the road, some carrying Bibles. I began thinking that something was missing from my life and wished to learn more. I secretly visited an Adventist family and listened to them read the Bible. I asked for and was given a Bible. I was surprised the Sabbath seemed to appear on every page. I was curious about which was the right day of worship: was it the Sabbath, as the Bible said, or Sunday, as my Orthodox neighbors believed?
My mother told me to go to a nearby town and ask a certain priest. “He is an honest person,” she said. “He will tell you.” I found the priest and told him I had come to buy a Bible to compare the Orthodox Bible with the Adventist Bible I already had. The priest ordered someone to bring me a Bible but would not answer my question “What does the Bible say is the right day of worship?” He told me to see for myself. I paid 30 rubles for the Bible and started home. On the way home I met my older brother and told him the whole story. We compared the Bibles on the road. I was concerned I had spent precious money for Bibles that were the same. I prayed that my husband would not find out. Moments later my brother declared he wanted my new Bible and gave me back my 30 rubles. God had answered my prayer.
My husband did not support my new desire to become an Adventist. I prayed for him. Around the time I was baptized, my husband developed a terrible rash. As I cared for my husband’s rash, I prayed and asked God for help. One day the rash was gone. My husband began to think about his anger towards me and one night he had a dream of the second coming. When he woke, he asked if there was time for him to be baptized. My second prayer was answered. My husband was baptized 10 years after me.
I started praying for a dear friend from school days. I hadn’t seen her for 20 years. One day, my husband and I traveled to Moldova’s capital for a special celebration at the church headquarters. At the celebration I met my old friend whom I had been praying for. She told “I also am an Adventist. You told me 20 years ago that the Adventist Church was the right church.” I did not know how that was possible since I did not even know the Adventist church back then. But she insisted I had introduced her to the Adventist faith. I could only figure that I had talked to her about “Christians” and God had intervened for her to hear “Adventists”. God had answered my prayer for my friend’s salvation 20 years before I asked. This is the power of prayer.
