Because today is considered Valentine’s Day, we have this heart illustration from June 1922: “The Heart of the Church”. Frederick Lee, in a 1932 Review article ...on Sabbath School (found on page 19 at https://goo.gl/MmCJWw), wrote, “Not one of us who has been long in the way fails to appreciate the influence of the Sabbath school on our lives.” He then expounded upon why Sabbath School is the pumping heart of a growing church. Feel free to check out the article and find out what he said!
The next year, the Review issued a special number that was all about Sabbath School (found https://goo.gl/X289oH), and its lead article was written by L. Flora Plummer, secretary of the Sabbath School department. “The Sabbath school is the church organized and equipped for the systematic study of the word of God,” she wrote. “By its form of organization, it is fitted to impart spiritual instruction to the entire flock. It may be likened to a table in a home, bountifully supplied with nourishing food adapted to the needs of each member of the family.

From Atheist to Adventist
“God must have a sense of humor,” says Torgeir (pronounced Tor-GUY) of Norway. “My wife Cayetana (pronounced Kay-TA-na), who had been widowed for several years, prayed for God to send her a man with whom she could share her faith and who could help raise her young son. Instead He sent me – an atheist!” Torgeir had been previously married to a Norwegian girl and had 3 children. But his drinking lifestyle caused the marriage to deteriorate. Once Christmas, after drinking all day, he finally came to his senses and knew he had to make changes.
All his life he had been fascinated with the Inca Indians of Peru and was finally able to visit and he fell in love with the country and people. After accompanying a young Peruvian boy home, he came back to Norway and started studying Spanish. On his next visit to Peru, he wandered into a restaurant that happened to be Cayetana’s. Torgeir smiles when he repeats the old proverb, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” He did not travel to any of the other cities on his list but stayed right there and eventually met Cayetana’s family who were Adventists. He visited Peru three more times and the last time he applied for a visa for Cayetana to come to Norway and marry him.
When Cayetana first arrived in Norway, Torgeir located the Adventist church in Oslo so she could attend. He thought he should go to church with his wife the first few times till she felt comfortable there and made friends. After attending for about six months, the pastor asked Torgeir if he would like to study the Bible with him and Torgeir accepted. After studying together for some months, Torgeir answered yes when asked if he wanted to be baptized. His wife was re-baptized at the same time. God had been working on Torgeir for some time. The desire to smoke and drink had been taken away previously. Torgeir had never owned a Bible before but now he cannot go a day without studying the Bible. “My conversion was certainly the leading of the Holy Spirit. I was changing without noticing. My conversion was like a flower slowly, slowly opening.”
