Praise in Giving: World Budget/Voice of Prophecy/La Voz de la Esperanza
The faith project. Anthony and Nayeli Nix always make large financial decisions together. But one Sabbath, while Nayeli was helping in the children’s department, the pastor preached a sermon that appealed to the members to support, in a sacrificial manner, the campaign of enlarging the church. Rather fearfully and on his own, Anthony made the decision to contribute approximately 90 percent of his wages for January. Having made this decision without consulting his wife, he was tense and rehearsed in his mind how to break the news to Nayeli. He explained and asked her to listen to a recording of the sermon. Afterwards, she affirmed her decision to stand by the decision he had made. Much to their amazement, when he returned to work he found out that his wages were to be increased a considerable amount.

Water of Life
A group of 32 student missionaries, from Hong Kong and Korea, arrived on the Thailand-Myanmar border for a one-week visit in January 2016. At the beginning of the week, 3 missionaries and their photographer took a one-hour motorcycle trek into Myanmar to visit a village of 14 families. While there, the visitors witnessed a daily struggle for drinking water. The village’s only source of clean water was a reservoir a mile away, and the villagers walked back and forth with buckets. When the student missionaries returned to camp, they told the others about the water situation and the students decided to donate 50,000 baht (about U.S. $1,500) to lay a water pipeline from the reservoir to the village.
The students were back home in Hong Kong and South Korea when work was finished on the water pipeline a month later. But the pipeline ended up providing more than water. It opened the way for the village children to receive the Water of Life. The village were not Christian, and they didn’t want to have anything to do with Christianity. But when they saw this simple act of kindness by Christians, they wanted a school for their children. At the invitation of the villagers, the Seventh-day Adventist Church opened a school in the village in June 2016.
