Praise in Giving: Local Church Budget
The trucker. A retired missionary relates the story of overhearing a cashier at a truck stop asking the trucker “How much do you want me to write on the receipt?” The missionary was puzzled at first but then realized that the trucker and casher were conspiring in a scheme to rip off the truck driver’s company. They would falsify the amount of the receipt. Then trucker and cashier would split the profit. There is no telling how much deceit and dishonesty there is out in the world. If nothing else, God’s tithing system teaches us to be honest in keeping accurate records of our finances. On the plus side, it is a wonderful thing not only to be honest, but to be generous. Using our blessings to benefit God’s work, and assisting the needy with our talents, time, and resources, helps us to sleep sweetly at night. It’s a foretaste of His kingdom, which will be filled with unselfish and true-hearted people.

I Don’t Want to Teach
Tserenpil “Ogie” Otgontuya had to choose an area of study at the university in Mongolia. She thought, “I will never be a teacher.” Her mother was a kindergarten teacher and Ogie had no patience for noisy children. When asked to teach the children’s Sabbath School class at church, Ogie stated, “No, I don’t like children.” She married a university professor, they had a child, and they moved to a small town to work as missionaries. Her husband asked what she would do in the small town. She didn’t know but knew she didn’t want to teach. After university classes, her husband would invite students home. Ogie prepared simple, healthy food. The students were surprised there was no meat so Ogie taught them about the biblical health message. At the same time, she made friends with other mothers in the neighborhood and when they visited, she would tell Bible stories to their babies. Ogie did not want to teach but it seemed she was teaching all the time.
Then her husband was asked to further his education at the Adventist University of the Philippines. Ogie prayed what she should do in the Philippines. Later a university professor asked her what she would do for the 2-1/2 years her husband was completing his classes. “Maybe study accounting or nursing.” But accounting took 4 years and nursing took 5 years. The only course that she could complete in the 2-1/2 years was elementary education. She graduated at the same time as her husband. Back in Mongolia she helped establish the first Adventist school and a few years later became the principal. “I love children and teaching!” A Thirteenth Sabbath Offering in 2015 helped expand the elementary school classrooms. Now this quarter’s Thirteenth Sabbath Offering will help build a boarding academy for 9th through 12th grade students. "Looking back, I really praise the Lord. I tell people that you never know what God has planned for your life.”
