Praise in Giving: World Budget/Fall Mission Appeal
Mission giving. It is no secret that our giving to missions has fallen off decidedly since the early days of our denomination. And that is a shame. Who of the older ones of us cannot remember the legendary stories of our missionary pioneers – the Stahls, the Hares, and hundreds of others like them? And what about Pitcairn Island and other exotic lands? It is not surprising that a special day of emphasis has been established for missions. It needs emphasizing, for sure. It would be well if each of us were to take a renewed look at our own approach to mission giving. Our tithe envelopes actually suggest a percentage of income to designate for missions. Today is a good day to start a new beginning with a generous offering for the Fall Mission Appeal.

World’s Best Job
Mandakh was a very hard man and judged people. If someone made a mistake, he always let them know what they had done wrong. He wanted them to be punished as he thought that God punishes us. Mandakh grew unhappy and finally decided that believing in God was pointless. He stopped going to church, stopped keeping the Sabbath and stopped giving tithe. His wife was sad, and she prayed for him. In the back of Mandakh’s mind, he lived in fear that God would punish him. Instead, God loved Mandakh and blessed him with a well-paying job as editor with a Mongolian television station. This turned Mandakh’s thoughts back to God and he wondered, what was the point of life if all he did was earn money and spend it. He decided the best job would be a missionary.
After several months, the leaders of the Adventist Church in Mongolia offered him the position of Global Mission pioneer. He would lead a home church in Mongolia’s capital city. He loves being a missionary. One miracle that he has witnessed happened with a disabled man who attended. His only income was $65 a month from the government. Mandakh encouraged him to pay tithe but the man refused. Then the man received 2 months payment at once one month. Mandakh again encouraged him to pay tithe. The next Sabbath this man came to church and paid tithe for the first time. A week later he called, all excited. “I gave this tithe last Sabbath, and today I got a letter from the government saying that my monthly payment has been increased by 50 percent!”
