Religious Liberty Focus: Without any doubt, the concept of faith is an important aspect of our Christian lives. We believe that our faith will be tested in the near future. Yet, faith is less understood, at times misunderstood, and often misused. On February 3rd, Ravi Jillapalli, PhD, in a divine service presentation titled, “The Incredible Power of Faith” will explore the fascinating and energizing power of faith.

Worship Service
When a Pastor, a former missionary, was asked at the last minute to go as the translator with a mission trip to the Dominican Republic, he was happy to. In packing, he remembered a beaten-up old baseball glove that was taking up space in his closet. Since baseball is a favorite of Dominican boys, he took the glove with him and watched for just the right boy to give it to. The boy was thrilled. To him it was worth a million bucks, while for the pastor it was just a throwaway item from the closet. Worth and value are attributed. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As you consider your monetary resources, how much are they worth in the light of eternity?

Top Chef Gives Up All

Mercedes Ruiz, a native Mayan living in the Central American country of Belize, was a busy woman. Six days a week, she worked as a chef for the Radisson hotel and prepared meals for First-class passengers on American Airlines. On Sundays, she went to church – and not just one church but three different churches. Mercedes prayed to know God’s will and to follow it. One Sunday she saw a flyer for a Seventh-day Adventist evangelistic series. She attended and learned of the seventh day Sabbath. Her supervisor was upset when she announced that she would no longer work on Saturdays. Her supervisor did not give her Saturdays off.

Without the supervisor’s support, Mercedes felt she had to resign. But the company director crumpled up her resignation letter and threw it in the trash. “Let’s pretend that you never gave me this letter”. The company director gave her Saturdays off and a raise. The supervisor was furious and gave Mercedes extra work and short deadlines to complete the work. Mercedes prayed for strength. Then the supervisor was killed by armed robbers fleeing a scene. Peace returned to the work place. A few years later, Mercedes rededicated her life to God and asked the Pastor for Bible studies. When the Pastor arrived, her found that Mercedes had invited all her neighbors too! 16 people were baptized through these Bible studies and a church was started. Mercedes has since become a Global Mission pioneer and wants to do more for the Lord. “I love to do missionary work. It’s a life of commitment, and I am happily doing it.”
