Praise in Giving: Local Church Budget
David’s decision. When God instructed David to go build an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite, David would not allow Araunah to give him the threshing floor, he insisted on paying full price. He also would not allow Araunah to give him his oxen for the burnt offerings, threshing boards for the fire or his wheat for the grain offering. King David replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on buying it for the full price. I will not take what is yours and give it to the Lord. I will not present burnt offerings that have cost me nothing!” (1 Chron. 21:18-24, NLT) How much of our offerings cost us relatively little or nothing? We place a dollar or two in the offering plate and think we have done God a great service. Let’s give sacrificially.

Possessed by 20 Spirits
Si-Woo [pronounced: She-oo] suffered chronic headaches as a child in South Korea. Si-Woo completed college, got married and had a daughter, but life was a struggle because of the constant headaches. Doctors didn’t know what to do. Then a shaman told her she suffered from headaches because a ghost child had entered the room right before she was born and that this spirit was Si-Woo’s brother. She was suffering headaches because her brother died from a head injury. The shaman said in order for Si-Woo to get rid of the headaches, she must be possessed by a spirit and become a shaman. If she refused, her young daughter would be tormented by the spirit. Si-Woo ended up being possessed by 20 spirits.
She became a shaman and was apparently good at her job. She was able to diagnosis illnesses by having pain in her body at the same location as her “patient”. Si-Woo made a fortune but was not happy. She suffered from continual body pain and growing psychosis, her husband and children deserted her and she tried to commit suicide several times. Then she was in an auto accident that left her in the hospital for several months. After that, she burned her shrine and announced she would no longer serve the gods since they did not protect her. Searching for peace, she remembered an Adventist lady that had once spoken to her about Jesus. Si-Woo contacted the lady and began Bible studies. She was baptized in 2016. Si-Woo is now proclaiming all that Jesus has done for her at Adventist churches across South Korea.
