Developing Loving Relationships with
        C
hrist and Our Community.

Hello Stonehill Church Family,

We look forward to worshiping with you this Sabbath!

Food for thought...
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:6,7
A worried mind is a divided mind. Worry takes a meat cleaver to our thoughts, energy, and focus.  The Bible's most common word for "worry" is the Greek term: "merimnate". The origin is "merimnao". This is a compound of a verb and a noun. The verb is "divide". The noun is "mind". To be anxious, then, is to divide the mind. Anxiety chops up our attention, derails our purpose, and scatters our awareness in a dozen directions.
We worry about the past; what we said or did. We worry about the future; tomorrow's assignments or the next decade's developments. Anxiety takes our attention from the right now and directs it 'back then' or 'up there'.  The challenge is to keep our attention on the "right now".  Here is a resolve that I wrote and read often:
"Today I will live today. Yesterday is past. Tomorrow is not yet. I'm left with today. So, today, I will live today.  Relive yesterday? No. I will learn from it. I will seek mercy for it. I will take joy in it. But I won't live in it. The sun has set on yesterday.  The sun has yet to rise on tomorrow. Worry about the future? To what gain? It deserves a glance, nothing more. I can't change tomorrow until tomorrow.
Today I will live today. I will face today's challenges with today's strength. I will dance today's waltz with today's music. I will celebrate today's opportunities with today's hope.  Today. May I laugh, listen, learn, and love today. And, tomorrow, if it comes, may I do so again."  Leave your problems with God. He does not need our help, counsel, or assistance.
- Max Lucado, November 2015

A written list with photographic inventory of church contents and valuables is to be maintained for items in the church building. Each department/area will be responsible for compiling inventory for their area and providing Teresa with the department/area list so that she can maintain the master inventory. Whomever will be the contact person for each department/area, please contact Teresa within the next 2 weeks via email, phone or in person, to go over what is needed.

                     **************

Our church website and our http://stonehill.tv are currently unfunded by our church's operating budget. The costs for the church's website, URL, domain name, etc., have totaled $720 for the past four years or $15/month. On the streaming side, we use an advertisement supported option instead of a paid option. If you have watched the stream, you would have seen, frequently, some advertisements. Some are okay, but some are not quite appropriate. The minimum level to remove ads runs $99/month for 100 hours of ad-free streaming. If you are able to contribute to removing ads, in whole or in part, please mark your envelope "Streaming", so that we can stream God's Word ad-free.

Worship Service
Praise in Giving: Southwestern Adventist University

On a daily basis, the faculty and staff at Southwestern Adventist University hear stories from students about how they came to be sitting in their class, in their office, in their residence hall. Roberta was discouraged with her public school experience and had almost given up on finding a college atmosphere with more substance. Jacob wanted to find somewhere to belong with professors who really demonstrated that they cared. Matthew was sure he was supposed to go to another school, but he couldn’t afford it. Karina thought she had to go to a public college but it had always been her grandma’s dream that she attend an Adventist university.
These students all have one thing in common: they received scholarships to enable them to attend Southwestern Adventist University. Each of them found when they prayed for God’s will to be done, He opened a door. As Matthew says, “I let God lead in my decisions and I watched Him open doors that I could’ve never opened on my own. It turns out that I love Southwestern. God’s plan was so much better than mine and I would’ve missed out on this enormous blessing if I wasn’t’ listening.”
Matthew, Roberta, Jacob, and Karina are very involved, contributing in very different but very significant ways to the Southwestern Adventist University campus family. Their experiences are unique but not uncommon. While Southwestern students are studying and working hard towards their career goals, they have the irreplaceable opportunity to also daily grow their relationship with Christ and learn how to serve their community.
Your offering this week allows God to open doors for these students. You are helping answer their prayers. Learn alongside these students and listen to what God is impressing on your heart.

Dates to Remember
Church Work Bee, Sunday July 31. Let’s plan now to help get the classrooms ready for the coming school year and to keep God’s house looking its best. A list is being compiled of items needing to be attended to so all can be prepared. No matter your age or abilities, there will be something for you to help with. If you know of an item that needs cleaned or repaired, please let Teresa know.

Chef Melody Prettyman, 3ABN Guest Speaker and Chef, will be at Stonehill SDA on Sunday, August 7, at 4pm, where she will present her plant based diet health program with recipes and samples. Invite your friends, family and neighbors to join you at the meeting. Melody shares the solutions that transformed her life from chronic illness to vibrant health. “I’m living proof of what a whole plant-based diet can do to completely change our lives. No medicine is stronger for your chronic lifestyle diseases than nutrition. Many doctors are now using nutrition to treat and eliminate what drugs don’t.” Melody will also be at Elgin SDA church on Sabbath, July 30, at 6 p.m., where she will present her Simple Home Remedies program with recipes to help save money and live healthier.

Prophecies of Hope with Lynnwood Spangler. The Elgin SDA church will be hosting Prophecies of Hope presented by Lynnwood Spangler. Opening night is Friday, August 19, 7pm. All are welcome to attend.
