“Local Church Budget” may be a rather vague term to some, so let’s flesh it out a bit. It is far more than just paying for light and heat and air conditioning. It has to do with all of those important components that enter into the ministry of our local church. Children’s ministries, youth ministries, and many other ministries all benefit from what we are giving today. So let us contribute generously today to God’s work in this.

Sewing for Jesus
Mavis Burrell Spencer’s husband had established three flourishing tailor shops in Jamaica and when he died, Mavis decided to continue to run his high-end tailoring business. Then she started attending weekly Bible studies and started learning many things that she had not known was in the Bible. In addition to the Sabbath truth, she didn’t realize that Jesus was coming soon and would take the righteous home. She was amazed by the Bible’s description of the New Earth. However, she still kept her shops open on Saturday, her busiest work day. She began to pray earnestly about the Sabbath and in December 2016, she made her decision. She posted a notice on the doors of her three shops that read, “Effective January 7, Spencer’s Tailoring Establishment will be closed on Saturdays.” Instead, the shops would be open on Sundays. Mavis was baptized on January 7.
Some clients complained angrily about the shop being closed on Saturdays. Mavis patiently replied regarding her new-found love of her heavenly Father. Even with the shops closed on Saturdays, they began to prosper. Clients found it more convenient to come to her main shop on Sundays when they did not have to wrestle for parking, since the shopping center was quiet on Sundays. These days, Mavis, who is 66, prays with her staff before opening every morning. Now, instead of the arguing and competing among employees, a sense of calm has come over her business. Asked what advice she has for business owners thinking about keeping the Sabbath, she said, “You have nothing to lose. You only have to gain when you give it all to the Lord.” “Keep your eyes on Jesus because He is the source of life. Without Him, you have nothing. With Him, you can do everything.”
