Hello Stonehill Church Family,
We look forward to worshiping with you this Sabbath!
The Central Area Men’s Ministry Retreat, August 18, will be hosted at Stonehill SDA Church. That is this Sabbath. The morning program will be for both men and women, the afternoon program for men only. Please bring additional food to share with our guests and be ready to assist with setting up and taking down additional tables and chairs.
Thank you: Rafael and I would love to thank the Stonehill church family for all the love and support shown to Gavin and our family over the past 3 months. This has been the most difficult experience that anyone in our family has ever gone through. We are unbelievably grateful for the meals, the cards, the donations, the words of encouragement and most of all for lifting up Gavin’s name in prayer. Please keep the prayers coming, as they are heard by our Savior and appreciated by us on this long journey of recovery and rehabilitation. Thank you all so much for being so supportive. Your love was felt by each of us.
Rafael, Erin, Gavin and London

Praise in Giving: Local Church Budget
Participatory worship. Occasionally someone will call for the offering with these words: “We have now come to the place in the service where all of us can take part.” That represents a misunderstanding of the concept of worship. Worship is by nature participatory, and active rather than passive. It is not meant to be a “spectator sport.” True worship occurs when we lift up the Lord in praise and thanksgiving, offering ourselves to Him in devotion and service, and devoiding ourselves of our innate pride and selfishness. Yes, worship the Lord in tithes and offerings today, but also in every part of the divine service.

Jesus Catches Fisherman
Mother to Hundreds
Mayumi is one of the most influential Seventh-day Adventist woman in Japan. But she nearly wasn’t. She nearly died twice before the first grade. Her father was an alcoholic and her mother suffered mental illness. Twice Mayumi knocked a kettle filled with boiling water off the stove – both times hot water drenched her body leaving permanent scars. When she was nine, her mother disappeared, never to be seen again. In the sixth grade, an American moved in next door and taught her to speak English and read the Bible. It was then that the idea came to her to take care of children. But she married at age 21 and divorced 10 years later. She became an alcoholic and heavy smoker, even tried to commit suicide. She remarried at 38 and began to build a new life.
She was horrified at what she saw when she began working at a day care center. The daycare set strict rules and the desperate parents had to work around them. So Mayumi started her own day-care business with a customer-first policy. She accepted children with any condition and if the child had a fever, she sent a baby-sitter to their house so they would not infect the other children. She was taking care of other people’s children but having trouble with her own. One of her daughters refused to go to her 4th grade class because she said the teacher called her “stupid” and punished her by hitting her on the shoulder or arm. So Mayumi found a Seventh-day Adventist school and enrolled her girls. They loved it. Several years later Mayumi was baptized. Mayumi immediately began to change – to be healthier, happy all the time and more fit. She tells her former day-care children about Jesus and encourages them to study in Adventist schools. About 45 of her former day-car children and their parents have been baptized over the last four years. She now runs a large Tokyo day-care center with 50 children and plans to open a lifestyle center for children with mental challenges such as ADHD and Asperger’s Syndrome.
