Blue Jeans
Kermyt’s father grew up in a Seventh-day Adventist home in Puerto Rico but left the church when someone criticized his fiancée for wearing blue jeans to church. He was 19 at the time and showed up on Sabbath with his fiancée, who belonged to a Sunday-keeping church. He became furious when someone told her that she wasn’t dressed appropriately. So he abandoned his faith. His 2 sons were raised with a father who was a big, muscular SWAT officer who liked to fight, smoke and drink. The years passed and Kermyt’s parents separated. But at age 45 the father was hospitalized and as a result had part of his intestines removed. After this he suffered respiratory arrest and he could not breathe. His life passed before his eyes and he saw all the times that he had rejected Christ. He was overcome with fear about his future. At that time, he felt 2 big hand reach down and he heard a voice tell him “Don’t worry. You are in my hands.”
After leaving the hospital, Kermyt’s father gave his life to Jesus and returned to the Adventist church. At this time Kermyt was a 27-year-old truck driver who smoke, drank, and was addicted to cocaine and heroin. Kermyt’s brother worshiped the devil and dressed all in black. Neither would listen to anything the father had to tell them about Jesus. So the father finally put his 2 sons in God’ hands. Not long after, Kermyt, after a weekend of partying, felt different and started loathing his lifestyle. He prayed for God to help him and God miraculously took away his desire for tobacco, alcohol, and drugs.
Today, 10 years later, Kermyt is a pastor in Puerto Rico, married to a wonderful Adventist woman, and they have 5 children. His brother is serving God at an Adventist church in the U.S., and he has had the privilege of baptizing his mother 5 years ago. His father has remains a faithful Adventist is Puerto Rico. A long time ago, his father and Kermyt used to joke that they would go to clubs and drink together when Kermyt grew up. But now they go to church together. Kermyt says “If Jesus can do this for us, He can do this for anyone.”
