“The Sanctuary”. The sanctuary message teaches us many things about stewardship. What overall lesson did God want His people to learn? They would have to be entirely dependent on Him. While possessions and money are necessary for the sustenance of life, He wanted to make sure that they understood where their resources came from and how they were to be used to His glory. He also had built-in provisions for the care of the poor. Think about what the children of Israel had to do in the jubilee years, such as forgiving all debts and returning land to its original owner. What amazing reminders of the temporary nature of our existence on this earth. Through our support of education, evangelism, and youth ministry in our conference, let’s send our treasures heavenward today!

Mexican Gives Up All
Inspired aby reading mission stories, Nerly resolved at the age of 17 to leave her home in the Mexican state of Chiapas one day and become a missionary. After graduating from the University, she prayed for God to give her a job so she would have the money to buy the airplane ticket to go as a missionary. God gave her a job at the Southeast Adventist Hospital in the Mexican state of Tabasco. But twice, just when she had saved up the money to go as a missionary to Ebeye, she had to give her savings to a family member to help out with expenses. Then two years later, when she was planning to purchase a car and house, she remember Ebeye. She couldn’t stop thinking about Ebeye. She argued with God that she was working at an Adventist hospital doing God’s work, why should she leave her job and go to another country?
But all she could think was Ebeye, Ebeye, Ebeye. So she prayed that if God wanted her to go, He would give her a US visa since the cheapest route to fly was through California and Hawaii. She prayed that she would not get the visa. At the embassy, the consular officer asked why she wanted a visa and she answered “Because I’m going to be a missionary on Ebeye Island in the Marshall Islands.” The officer gave her visa. So Nerly left her job and her life in Mexico and moved to Ebeye. She gave Bible studies and now 5 of her fifth grade students have been baptized. Nerly tried to come to Ebeye for four years but only arrived in 2016. She knows God has a plan even though she doesn’t know what it is but knows God will reveal it at the perfect time.
