Hello Stonehill Church Family,
We look forward to worshiping with you this Sabbath!
Thank you to each one of you who have saved labels for our Labels for Missions project. We turned in over 500 labels last year. This year, however, we received new guidelines regarding what labels are accepted. Labels from canned foods (Worthington, Loma Linda and Caroline) are accepted but labels from frozen food of any brand are no longer accepted. All UPC codes from canned products must begin with 28989 or 45561. (Even though frozen foods may begin with these numbers, they are not accepted.) Watch the lobby for a “Labels for Missions” box of where to leave your labels.

Praise in Giving: Local Church Budget
Independent ministries. Here are some recognized characteristics of those independent ministries that we would consider “supporting” ministries, rather than “competing” ministries: 1. They work very closely with conference and local leadership. 2. They provide needed services that the denomination itself does not provide, such as building churches. 3. They have current denominational officials as full voting members on their boards. 4. They are openly loyal to, rather than in competition with, the Seventh-day Adventist denomination. 5. They do not encourage or knowingly receive tithe from their supporters. Let’s be faithful givers, bringing our tithes and offerings first of all into God’s storehouse, His church, while not neglecting other valid appeals for special needs and causes.

Talking With The Dead
High school teacher Kim Harrington listened as 17-year-old Shelly described her conversation with her grandfather the previous evening. Then Shelly mentioned that her grandfather had been dead for several years. Shelly spoke many times about spirits with her teachers. Many students at Mamawi Atosketan Native Shool come from families with traditional spiritual practices and hear about Jesus for the first time at the K-12 school. Kim, a science and math teacher at Mamawi Atosketan Native School, was disturbed about the conversations. She prayed for God to give her the right words. Kim began to ask Shelly questions about what the Bible says about spirits, what she thought the spirit was, if it was really her grandpa and who sent the spirit. Shelly was familiar with the biblical teaching that the dead are asleep and know nothing. She finally agreed Mrs. Harrington was right and it was not her grandpa. Kim prayed with the girl.
Following that prayer, Shelly returned to Kim several times to ask for prayers when she was having family problems or a bad day. Sometime later, Shelly told Kim that she had been approached by the spirit of her grandmother. She listened for a short time because she missed her grandmother but then she told the spirit to leave if it was an evil spirit and she started singing songs about Jesus. The spirit left. Kim prays Shelly is learning to place her confidence in God. Kim wants her students to know that they belong to God and not to some spirit. She has pasted signs on the chairs in her classroom that say, “This seat is occupied by a child of God.”
