Praise in Giving: Local Church Budget
Labor Day. “Jesus came to this earth to accomplish the greatest work ever accomplished among men. He came as God’s ambassador, to show us how to live so as to secure life’s best results. What were the conditions chosen by the Infinite Father for His Son? A secluded home in the Galilean hills; a household sustained by honest, self-respecting labor; a life of simplicity; daily conflict with difficulty and hardship; self-sacrifice, economy, and patient, gladsome service; the hour of study at His mother’s side, with the open scroll of Scripture; the quiet of dawn or twilight in the green valley; the holy ministries of nature; the study of creation and providence; and the soul’s communion with God – these were the conditions and opportunities of the early life of Jesus” (The Adventist Home, p. 132). Wow! What an ideal situation! And what an example for us! So this Labor Day Weekend as we honor the laborers of our land, whether manual or mental labor, let us honor God’s work by our faithfulness in tithes and offerings.

Eighth Grader Converts Church
Eighth grader Bumchin wanted to go to church when his family moved to a mountainous town in rural Mongolia. But his new town didn’t have a Seventh-day Adventist church. He only found one Christian church that met on Sundays in the home of his new math teacher. Bumchin wondered if he would be a missionary to his new town. As he pondered his next move, he began climbing up a mountain near his home very morning and singing Christian songs and praying to God to guide him. One morning after prayers, he went to the Sunday church. He was the only child among 20 adults. He was surprised to hear that this was the last meeting, they were going to close the church. Bumchin stood and shared 1 Corinthians 15:58 and then gave a Bible study on how Christians should not lose hope.
The members decided that instead of this being their last meeting, it was their first meeting as a new start. Several of the members joined him in climbing the mountain for prayer. Bumchin invited the pastor of his old Adventist church to present Adventist beliefs at the Sunday church. He agreed if Bumchin would help him. After 6 months, the membership had grown to 27. At the end of the year, the members traveled to the Adventist pastor’s church to pray with the Adventist members at a special Christmas program. When they returned, they voted unanimously to turn their church into an Adventist church. The membership grew to 40 members by the time Bumchin moved away as an adult. Today Bumchin is a Global Mission pioneer with his wife. When asked what he wants to do next, Bumchin replied “I want to plant churches around Mongolia.”
