Two-way conversations using shortwave frequencies are well known among “ham operators.” But the miracle lies in the fact that shortwave transmissions can travel around the globe. There are no international boundaries. The message is “out there” for all to hear. Adventist World Radio has been employing this phenomenon for years now and has met with huge success, as attested to by the correspondence it receives from faraway places. And nowadays, of course, AWR is using many digital means, such as Internet, to enlarge their broadcast ministry. They deserve our solid support.

A Scrappy Dog
Shanelle, a student from the University of the Southern Caribbean in Trinidad and Tobago, came to Canada to sell books door to door. She was paired with a student from Romania that did not speak much English. One rainy Friday, after hours of canvassing separate side of the street, the Romanian student had a door slammed in his face. Shanelle suggested they work together. At the next house, a dog started barking when they knocked. Dog owners don’t like it when their pets bark loudly, and they usually refuse to buy books. It looked like this house would be no different. Then Shanelle said to the dog “Scruffy, what’s wrong? Why are you making so much noise? Is it because I am a stranger?” The woman was so surprised. She asked how Shanelle knew about Scruffy. Scruffy had been the woman’s previous dog who had died. Shanelle assured the lady she did not know about the dog but expressed sympathy over her loss.
When the woman was about to buy a book, her husband came home. Shanelle introduced herself and was surprised to find the husband’s name was John, the same as her father’s name. When the woman found out that Shanelle was from the island of Saint Lucia, she burst into tears. “We’re going to Saint Lucia on our next vacation.” The lady, who usually did not talk with salespeople at her door, asked Shanelle to tell her about the island. “You called my dog Scruffy by name, you are from the very island where I plan to go next, and your father’s name is the same as my husband’s. And you have a pleasant smile. Are you sure you aren’t an angel?” I assured her I was just Shanelle. As they left the hour, the Romanian friend asked Shanelle how she did it? The lady was about to reject her but instead she sold two books. Shanelle answered “It was God.” Shanelle was happy, she had met her goal for that day. She had reached one life for Jesus.
