Learn Essential Skills for Coastal Navigation

Join us August 8-10 for our 3 day American Sailing Association (ASA) Coastal Navigation classroom course.

Learn the required skills to safely navigate a sailing vessel in coastal or inland waters. This is a theory course only, and there is no sailing involved, therefore it can be taken at anytime during your ASA sailing progression.

In this course you learn the theory of navigation, including:

  • Reading charts
  • Using the instruments on board
  • Understanding tide and current tables
  • Converting courses and bearings for true, magnetic, and compass directions
  • Dead reckoning
  • Plotting a course
The practical application of the material taught in this course is part of, and is a prerequisite to, ASA 106, Advanced Coastal Cruising.
