Intel Acquires Israeli Startup to Fuel Immersive Sports
Intel announced they have acquired Replay Technologies, a video 3D reconstruction technology company. Intel says it will continue to work with Replay to develop technologies that deliver immersive sports experiences like NBA All-Star Weekend. Numerous companies are working at the intersection of sports and VR, such as NextVR, Virtually Live, and LiveLike, and we expect more acquisitions in the not too distant future. Amazon Video is Building a VR Platform
Similar to Apple, Amazon has quietly begun assembling a virtual reality R&D team. Amazon appears to be aiming at creating a platform and interface for immersive storytelling. The Seattle-based company may be planning to add VR experiences to its Amazon Prime Video subscription service, but will first need to determine if consumers will pay for short-form immersive experiences.
