IBM Is Bringing Watson To VR
This week, game studio Rectangular Studios (Caceres, Spain) announced they are working with the IBM Watson platform to create a "cognitive system” to support avatar decision-making in virtual reality. Watson, which uses structured and unstructured text pages to form a natural language knowledge graph, has been successfully applied in health care, insurance, and famously in Jeopardy! applications. Watson has the potential to increase the accuracy with which avatars follow human instruction in VR by up to 90%. Starbreeze Studios Plans Expansion for VR Launch
In a company release, Starbreeze Studios announced plans to aggressively hire game development and marketing teams to support the company's numerous VR initiatives. The Stockholm-based studio is not alone in the need to support rapidly growing VR business lines. In our February 2016 Virtual Reality Industry Monitor survey, 15% of executive respondents reported 10 or more VR titles developed or currently in development. [Read more about the Virtual Reality Industry Monitor here.]
