ASA Update #2

Welcome to our existing and new members

Want to get your voice heard? Get your say at the ASA Executive meetings which happen every second Tuesday.  Our next one will be on Tuesday 28th March, 6pm in the student lounge. Come along if you want to know what's going on around campus and what the ASA is doing for you.  Cheers, Lance, ASA President.

ASA Special General Meeting:Wed 22 March

All students are invited to attend the Association's Special General Meeting at midday on 22nd March in the student lounge. We have our usual business to get through, like approving the budget, but then we have some other things that we'd like to discuss with you and get your opinions on. We will be providing PIZZA and more PIZZA to keep you sustained during the meeting. Read all the official info for the meeting.
CLUBS, please remember that it is a condition of affiliation that your club is represented at the meeting. (1 or all of your members can attend!)

ASA or MASA?

We are currently running a survey on a potential change of name for the Association. This is a discussion topic to find out your opinions. But if you'd like to have your say, you could be rewarded by winning one of the three $50 Westfield vouchers that we have on offer.

ADVANCED ADVOCACY TRAINING

ASA is offering Advocacy extension skills training to all of our Class Advocates who have attended our basic training module.  There are 3 modules which will be offered individually (but you must do them in sequence) or you can opt to take part in our full day training session that covers all 3 modules and includes a yummy lunch!  More info and to register. REMEMBER: This is only open to Class Advocates who have attended our basic training at least once.

ASA CLASS ADVOCATES

It's not too late to sign up to our Class Advocates' programme and remember that there can be multiple Class Advocates in a class, and there should be at least one Class Advocate to every 30 students. We may be able to offer an additional training session depending on numbers.

BUDGETING SEMINAR: WED 29 MARCH

The Advocacy service will be facilitating a budgeting seminar on March 29th, so this would be something well worth attending.  Get your finances sorted, BEFORE you get into trouble! We will be providing a delicious lunch (not Pizza!), so make sure you register so that we have enough for you!

CLUBS - IT'S TIME TO RE-AFFILIATE

Thanks to all of the club committee members who attended the Clubs' Development Workshop.  Hopefully you now know everything you need to know about re-affiliating with the ASA.  If you didn't manage to pick up a handbook, we have them available from our reception. Remember that we MUST receive your application prior to 31st March to ensure there is no interruption in the service we are able to provide to your club.

ASA VOLUNTEERS - WE NEED YOU

This is your chance to get super-involved on campus this year. Sign up and be an ASA Volunteer and you can get involved in all of the wonderful things we have planned for 2017.

ASA ADVOCACY SERVICE

Hopefully everything will go just as you dreamed it would when you enrolled at Massey.  But if you do find yourself in a difficult situation, be it related to your academic studies or more of a welfare issue, e.g. tenancy problem, we are here to help you.  Check out all of the information that we have on our website and if you need help, complete our Ask for Help form.

SOCIAL SPORTS LEAGUES

The Recreation Centre offers 2 social sports leagues each half of each semester.  Currently Futsal and Basketball are on offer, but after the mid-semester break, new leagues will be running on Tuesday and Friday lunchtimes; Table Tennis (Tues) and Netball (Fri). You can sign up either as a club or team or as an individual, in which case Mel will find a team for you! Contact Mel Ng for more information.

NZ NATIONAL TERTIARY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Do you think representing Massey is something you'd like to be a part of? Check out the tournament dates on offer and have a chat with Mel Ng at the Recreation Centre. The social leagues dates have been tailored to work with the calendar of Tertiary Championships, so register to play in the social leagues so that you can be selected! This is a great opportunity for you to be part of something BIG!!

CARPOOL TO MASSEY

Parking on campus can be difficult to find. Why not buddy up and save yourselves time driving round and round looking for a park (and using lots of petrol). If you drive to campus with a fellow student, you can each buy a carpool card from ASA Reception for just $20 each. This allows you to park in the car park right outside the Atrium building.

REMEMBER TO SIGN UP ON OUR WEBSITE BEFORE COMING TO BUY YOUR CARD. YOU NEED TO DO THIS EACH YEAR, SO EVEN IF YOU HAD A CARD LAST YEAR, YOU NEED TO SIGN UP TO CARPOOL FOR 2017.

The Massey Security team will be out and about making sure that no-one is parking where they are not supposed to be, so be warned and don't park on the grass or in spaces that you're not supposed to be in as it costs $65 to get your car un-clamped.

Overflow parking is available at Gate H, QBE Stadium.

GET THE T-SHIRT!!

Once you've signed up as a Class Advocate you have the chance to look awesome any day of the week! These t-shirts are ONLY available to Class Advocates, but if you think you'd look good in one, check out signing up as a Class Advocate. T-shirts are only $20 each, come in male and female styles and look great on everyone. Available from the ASA reception.

UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE 2017

Would you make a good member of Massey's University Challenge Team for 2017 or do you just want to find out more about it? To let us know that you are keen to know more and maybe attend the trials send an email to Jordan  Trials will be heaps of fun - we have some very funky buzzers!!

ASA DIARIES AND WALL PLANNERS

Two really important resources that will get you successfully through the year! Both are marked with all the important events on campus and will allow you to plan and schedule so that you get your assignments done on time but get to have some FUN as well!! Collect your FREEEEEEE diary and wall planner from our reception.  All sorts of useful stuff inside!
