ALIA Board Statement on the upcoming Referendum

The ALIA Board has released its statement on the upcoming Referendum on the Voice to Parliament. Libraries have an essential role to play in this process by providing access to quality information and information literacy provision, as well as documenting and facilitating the democratic process.

You can read the full statement here.

In addition to the statement, ALIA has created a set of resources to support library and information services during the referendum, including in mitigating risks. These Member-only resources can be accessed here.

Joint ALIA/APLA statement supporting free access to information

ALIA and APLA recently released a joint statement in support of access to information.

‘Public library collections should cover a wide range of popular topics, express a variety of viewpoints and cultural understandings, and represent a diversity of people, places, events, issues and ideas.

Collections are at the centre of library services. The APLA-ALIA Standards further provide that each ‘library service has a process for regularly assessing the content and size of the collection required to meet community needs and is proactive in pivoting the collection to meet changing community needs.’

Due to such a positive response, we have extended the survey to ensure we gather as many responses as possible.

The Queensland Public Libraries Association (QPLA) is inviting both members and non members of the association to participate in the QPLA Planning Survey.

You maybe the Library Manager, Mobile Library driver, Library Assistant or a coordinator - we would like to hear from you.

The survey is being undertaken to ensure your association is relevant to the needs of public libraries and indigenous knowledge centres across QLD and your participation will inform the direction of QPLA in the coming years. Take the survey before 28 April 2023 and watch your association grow.
