Signs and Synchronicities

Over the years I have experienced synchronicity many times. Coincidences, signs, guideposts, that have invited me to go this way or that way. When I was much younger, I didn’t necessarily recognize or listen to these things.

I can remember multiple times when I prayed for help and guidance and felt like I wasn’t getting it. I agonized over every decision, feeling like if I didn’t make the “right” one, my life would not go the way it was “supposed to” and I wouldn’t be fulfilling my purpose.

In these later years I have relaxed a bit about decision-making. I’ve learned that making good decisions takes patience and a willingness to wait (to trust the process!).

I’ve also come to believe that ultimately, it’s not about the outcome of the decision. It’s about whether I am willing to show up and learn my lessons, wherever I am and whatever I do. I’ve come to realize that my “purpose” is not to save the world but to love the world. Not to have the “right” job but to learn to be my true self, which is only Love.

I’ve learned that this Life really is an adventure, an experience of being spiritual beings in human form.

As I experiment with bridging my spirit and my humanness, I have learned that when I let go and listen deeply, I do receive guidance, sometimes in humorous ways, other times more like a bonk on the head.

People have asked me to share how I came to the decision to move back to Arizona. It was a variety of things that have unfolded and a whole lot of synchronicity. I look forward to sharing some of that story with you on Sunday.

And remember, as David Pomeranz says in the song, “It’s in every one of us...”

With love,

Important Announcements
You are Invited!

to Unity Council Meetings

Council meetings are usually held on the 2nd Sunday of each month at 12noon.

They are open to everyone and everyone has a voice, so feel free to join us.

(During the transition, find extra council meeting dates here,
on our website, and in our Sunday bulletin.)

Due to Mother's Day being on the second Sunday in May, the next Council Meeting is May 19th at 12noon in the Rumi Room.
Transition Update ~ April 25, 2019

The Unity Council, along with several congregants, met on Thursday, April 18, and made the following decisions.

Bylaws and Congregational Meeting:
It was decided to put Steve Colladay’s last visit with us on hold until the congregation has had the opportunity to decide – through consensus – whether or not to officially re-affiliate with Unity Worldwide Ministries (UWM) by approving a Bylaws update. Once that decision is made, we will know how to proceed with a Search Committee for the new Spiritual Leader.

At this stage, we are waiting to hear feedback from UWM about the Bylaws changes we proposed. After we hear back from them, we will call a special meeting (everyone is invited to attend) to make the final decision by consensus

Guest Speakers:
We also approved a plan to invite guest speakers from within the congregation to do Sunday morning talks over the next couple of months. We have wonderfully wise people in our midst who have stories, Unity experiences, and lessons to share. Join us to celebrate them and their stories! It will be another opportunity for the community to become closer.

It was decided that Franklin Taggart, Corina Hartzog, and Jordan Augenstein will be the coordinators of the guest speaker schedule.

Spiritual Support:
We have gratefully approved Rev. Julie Legg, our own long-time Unity congregant who was recently ordained at One Spirit Interfaith Seminary, for spiritual support during these next few months. She will be available for weddings, memorials, and spiritual counseling until a new person is hired. Contact Grace, in the Unity office (970-482-1620), to set up an appointment with Julie.

Ongoing general Unity administration will continue as the responsibility of the Council. As always, Grace will keep things running smoothly in the office, and Council will be in charge of approving any business and administrative decisions that were handled by Peggy in the past.

Council Meetings:
We want to remind you that everyone is welcome to come to Council meetings and that you have just as much of a voice as Council members. The more people who participate in decision-making – and who are willing to help do the work along the way – the more Unity we will have! The next regular council meeting is May 19th at 12noon in the Rumi Room.

Please have a look at our Transition Timeline for more info about what we've accomplished and what is upcoming.

You can also watch the video conference meeting between our Unity of Fort Collins bylaw committee and Unity Worldwide Ministries (UWM). You also may also be interested in the video link of the March 21, 2019 UWM By-Laws call with Unity Leaders nationwide.

The Art of Consensus

Years ago our Unity family released Robert’s Rules of Order and moved to consensus, because it reflects how we actually function in community decision-making. Simply put, consensus is the process of reaching mutual agreement in a group and ensuring that everyone is heard. It moves people toward what they have in common.

The process of voting can exclude the minority opinion. Consensus follows the spirit of Unity, and we believe that the Universe/God/Spirit/Truth supports this process. The Unity Council uses consensus to make all its decisions, and the community as a whole practices consensus at Annual Meetings.
