Preview for Sunday
Carriers of Love

This Sunday is the traditional Advent celebration of Love. Love is my favorite topic and yet in some ways it’s the hardest to talk about because
            It is Everything.
                 It is Who We Are.
                      It is All That Matters.
Bette Midler’s performance of “The Rose” goes deep into my heart and soul every time I hear it. Her voice is so incredibly soulful and the lyrics are so profound… especially the words, “I say Love, it is a flower, and you, its only seed.”
Upon looking up the origins of the song, I learned that the songwriter, Amanda McBroom, had a spiritual experience in which the song basically wrote itself! In her
description of writing it, she ends with expressing her eternal gratitude, “…to the Universe for speaking to me in the first place and for showing me what I truly believe.”

I love thinking about being a seed of the flower that is Love. It’s another way of saying that I am a child of God, for God IS Love.

Another image that came to me this week is that of being a carrier oil. In aromatherapy, certain strong essential oils are diluted by a “carrier oil,” so that the potent oil does not burn or irritate. Maybe we are like a carrier oil for the essence of Love!

As part of our reflections on Light and Love, Shannell Sedgwick will share a personal miracle story of a longed-for, unexpected birth.

Blessings and Love,

Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun's love
In the spring becomes the rose...    (Amanda McBroom)

Make Every Day Christmas

“Every day can be such as Christmas … every day can be a day when we think of others and give to them our love, our friendship, our time, our substance,” wrote Martha Smock in a classic Daily Word article from December 1966.

Important Announcements
Healing our Gender Wounds

2nd Thursdays of each month, 6:30-8:30pm
in the Rumi Room at Unity

Next meeting is tonight, Thursday, December 13th

The intention for this monthly group is to foster awareness, understanding, healing, and reconciliation of the cultural wounds women, men, non-binary gender, and LGBTQ experience in our patriarchal society.

The group will meet for 2 hours, and the meeting will consist of one half hour of program presented by Paul and/or Claire, followed by an hour and a half of group process time that follows a “heart circle” format.

The group will be co-facilitated by Claire Marshel and Paul Chubbuck.

Claire has a master’s degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology and has worked as a grief counselor and an Art Therapist. At this stage in life, Claire is most passionate about living a simple, joyful, connected life, and being a quiet agent of healing and cultural transformation in her community.

Paul is a body-centered trauma psychotherapist with a private practice in Fort Collins called "Releasing The Past." He is currently enrolled in a year-long professional training with "Gender Equity and Reconciliation International."

Together, Paul and Claire hope to foster a spirit of love, emotional safety, exploration, and healing of these issues in the group members, in themselves, and in our families and communities. If you need further information, you may contact Claire at (970) 231-6194 or Paul at 970) 493-2958.

There is a suggested love offering of $10 per meeting.
La Bendición Update

Sunday, December 16th at 5pm in the sanctuary

Join Mike Hawes, Cindy Sargent, and the engineers from Engineers without Borders for an update on Unity's partnership with the village of La Bendición, Guatemala, and experiences from the November service trip.

There will be a slide show and info presented about the water and kitchen projects that are ongoing there.

If you would like to join in the Burning Bowl at Unity Village as well as doing ours here in Ft. Collins, you can send your request to them

Note from Unity Village:

Dear Friend,

Please let us hear from you by December 31.

Just a couple of weeks left to be part of the Unity Year-End Burning Bowl experience.

Burning Bowl is one of the most powerful spiritual traditions of Unity. I hope you’ll join us for this transformative release of that which no longer serves you.

In just a few simple steps, you can begin the process of letting go and welcoming the change you seek:

  1. Relax and become still.
  2. Allow your heart to tell you what to release.
  3. Send it to us for inclusion in the Silent Unity Prayer Vigil and Burning Bowl.
We plan to stream the Burning Bowl ceremony in real time through Facebook Live from Unity Village on January 9, 2019!

I hope you plan to tune in and continue your process of release and renewal. Watching the slips of paper being consumed by the flames will remind you to consciously clear your mind of old thought patterns or habits and invoke your highest and best in the year ahead!

Your reply with what you would like to include in the Burning Bowl ceremony must be received by December 31.

We behold you letting go of limiting thoughts. We behold you living the life you envision.

Blessings for a wonderful year ahead,
Jim Blake, CEO
