The Friends of Montclair RR Trail is a volunteer, non-profit organization. We strive to maintain, preserve and enhance the wild and natural character of the "Montclair RR Trail", a City of Oakland Linear Park. We provide an extra pair of eyes and additional hands when needed, augmenting Oakland's Parks and Recreation resources to keep the Montclair Railroad Trail clean, safe and natural for all who use it.
Take a Train Simulator trip through Montclair on a Sacramento Northern electric-powered train like those that traveled through the Oakland hills to points east.
The Montclair section begins at 18:20 of the video and proceeds along what is now the Montclair RR Trail and beyond through the tunnel that began at Saroni Drive and ended at Eastport in Contra Costa county.
The Sacramento Northern Railway and its predecessors ran through the Oakland Hills between 1913 and 1957.
A mural commemorating this piece of Montclair history (draft design pictured) is planned for the trestle abutment on Mountain Blvd. You can contribute to the project via the Montclair Neighborhood Council (formerly the MSIC).

Thank you, Pet Food Express, for your ongoing donations of bags for the trail’s dog waste containers. You help all of us trail users keep the MRRT clean and enjoyable.
Volunteer With Us!
Saturday Morning, August 19
Please gather with us and other trail volunteers this Saturday, 8/19. Sign in at the Cortereal Avenue entrance to the trail (see map, the top star indicates where we’ll be meeting). We'll be working nearby from 9 to 11 AM weeding, mulching, and tidying up the trail.
No experience necessary. Children if accompanied by an adult are welcome. We suggest you wear long pants, sturdy shoes, hat, and sunscreen. We'll provide gloves and other equipment - but feel free to bring your own favorites, especially heavy gloves for removing blackberry and thistle plants.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday. Please forward this email to a couple of friends and ask them to join us, too.
You can find more information about the Montclair Railroad Trail and the FOMRRT organization at this link: http://www.monclairrrtrail.org. Please consider becoming a member or making a donation.
