Here are some things I'm giving a Whoop! about:

1. I published July Book Notes on Lauret Savoy's Trace: Memory, History, Race, and the American Landscape:

 2. ICYMI, my husband Steve and I have put our Backyard Camino on pause. Still a vicarious traveler, I'm following a Harvard ornithologist's bike ride across America. He posts daily on Twitter @ScottVEdwards1

3. Are you guilty of doomscrollingWell, I might be a little guilty of doomwriting. I posted a couple of stories on Whoop Jenny! (Stones and The Hug) that had a grim perspective on neighborliness.  I was trying to copy the mood of Shirley Jackson's short story, The Lottery. The normalization of inhuman behavior sneaks up on a society, and society starts at home. Spooky, isn't it?

4. Here's a Twitter thread that tickled me. It's about the life-changing magic of tidying up your writing.

5. Something funny my writing mentor texted to me:

"Writing is hard. Paint."
