Alumni Newsletter 2022/06

Thank you!

The year 2022 has come to an end. A lot has happened since January and Waterford Kamhlaba has been a hive of activities, from UWC Day to Education Symposium, UWC Africa Week, Careers Fair, Graduation ceremonies, and a Diplomatic Soiree to thank the diplomatic community, government, and all local stakeholders in Eswatini that have supported the school and the principal in the past two years. Particularly, we thank our alumni for supporting the school throughout the year and for their engagement with the WK community. Without our caring and supportive alumni, we would not have been able to achieve the things we were able to achieve this year. As we end the year, we look forward to our 60th-anniversary event in 2023; we hope to see many WK alumni during this historic event. We also bid farewell to our outgoing Principal Patricia Angoy and the Advancement Director Elizabeth Mhangami, who have served the school diligently in the past few years. Wishing you a safe and fruitful festive season!

Principal's Farewell Message

Our outgoing principal, Dr. Patricia Angoy, writes:

"Endings also mark beginnings as December 2022 comes to a close. This month signals my way out of Waterford Kamhlaba as you all did, as students, at differing times in the past. I would like to think I join you as I begin my journey as one closely tied to these granite hills, to the mist and cloud that descends onto our college here in Mbabane, and the sun that rises every day. I did not have the opportunity to be a student here but have had the privilege to serve as principal. These last two years of my teaching and leadership career will remain close to my heart. I would like to thank all the alumni, both those who reside here in the Kingdom of Eswatini and those beyond its borders for staying with us, keeping a keen eye on all that we do, and contributing to our growth and development. There is an energy here that has continued to generate creativity, action and service, deep knowledge and understanding together with a conscience. Working together we can create a more just Africa from wherever we reside. I now join you in continuing to serve Waterford Kamhlaba from my tiny home in the north of Luxembourg. You are all welcome. Thank you, Waterford Kamhlaba United World College of Southern Africa."

Farewell Message by Elizabeth Mhangami

WK's outgoing Advancement Director Elizabeth Mhangami.
The school's outgoing Advancement Director had these words for our alumni:

"After 4 years of serving as Advancement Director for the College, I will be stepping down from the role. It is really hard to say “goodbye”, but the time has come to say so. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Alumni and Donor community for the support I received while in this role and to let you all know that I have truly appreciated the moments I have shared with you all in person, virtually, and in email. Thanks to the people who selected me for this role, and who gave me the opportunity to work with some truly amazing people and students. 2023 marks Waterford Kamhlaba’s 60th Anniversary and I am sorry that I shall not be here to celebrate this milestone. On this youthful continent approaching, 60 years is a significant moment for any person or organization, and I am honoured to have been able to be a part of this significant African institution.

The Advancement Office will continue to keep you connected to the College and informed of all the activities and achievements of the students and staff. I know that there are many deserving causes that require your support and I would like to thank you for your continued support of Waterford Kamhlaba I hope that the College can continue to count on you. Our scholarship fund allows us to enroll the most deserving students and your contributions are a significant part of this.

It has been a pleasure working at Waterford Kamhlaba UWCSA and my memories will be cherished by me always. We will stay connected no matter where we are.
Thank you for your presence and support throughout my journey at Waterford."
