Happy First Anniversary

This month we recognise the effort of the Waterford Stokvel which celebrated its first anniversary at the Theatre Club in Mbabane, Swaziland, in February. During the event, the Stokvel also unveiled a logo, co-designed by Paluku Muzamu (DRC, WK 14-17) and a Swazi professional graphic designer Sipho Nhlabatsi.  Read more

Michael and Karen Attenborough
Visit Waterford in April

Swazi based alumni are invited to come and meet with Michael and Karen Attenborough, who will be visiting Waterford for 2 weeks in April. Michael and Karen will be ‘star guests’ for the Shakespeare season at Waterford. Michael is a celebrated theatre director, famous for his many years as director of the Royal Shakespeare Company (UK). Karen is a professional actress whose career has included major film and TV roles, as well as theatre performances. Michael is the son of Lord Richard and Lady Sheila Attenborough, whose legacy to the arts at Waterford has been, and continues to be, significant. On Monday the 9th of April, starting at 09:00 am they will be conducting a professional arts workshop at the Theatre Club in Mbabane. Alumni who are interested in participating in this event, or in meeting with Karen and Michael at another time, please send an email.

Ekukhuleni Hostel Refurbishment

We continue with our campaign in seeking support from the Waterford community to help us refurbish Waterford’s oldest hostel by also reaching out to past parents. If you think your parents would be willing to support this worthy cause send an email to Anne Rein Muller so she can contact them and inform them of this special project.

We also want to remind you to send us your personal hostel stories for us to share on the website and in further communications. Pictures are also very welcome! This will all help to paint an “Ekukhuleni picture” covering the many years it has been home to so many of you. (If you were at Ekuks, please let us know who your hostel head was at the time you were at Waterford).

“At Waterford I began to interact with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Through the Davis Scholarship, I had the chance of going to the U.S. for college where, of course this diversity was greater and I had to do some uncomfortable evaluation of certain things and beliefs that I had held growing up.” Read more
