GALA is excited to begin to introduce the families at GALA - Meet the Nate and Meagan Green family! What grade/program is your child(ren) enrolled in?
Our oldest, Daniel, is enrolled in the first grade Spanish program. Our second son, Asa, is enrolled in the kindergarten Spanish program.
Why are you excited about GALA?
Nate grew up in Venezuela from age 5-16 years old and learned Spanish at a young age. He couldn't imagine what life would be like without the ability to speak a second language, and also treasures the gift of relationships he has had because of the ability to communicate in Spanish.
Tell us about yourself
Nate works as a pastor at Cuyahoga Valley Church in Broadview Heights and Meagan takes care of their four sons (and soon-to-be five children this fall). They have made their home in Parma since moving to Ohio from Minnesota in 2008.
What is your favorite thing to do and/or place to go in Cleveland?
We really enjoy the Metroparks, and we most frequently visit West Creek Reservation and the Zoo.

Staff Faces Around GALA
GALA is excited to begin to introduceKara Kirby, English teacher at GALA!
Why are you excited about teaching at GALA?
I am looking forward to becoming part of the GALA educational team, because I believe in high quality, holistic education, and GALA's model is exactly that. I am excited to be part of GALA's innovative immersion program, as well as the inception of its International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
Tell us about yourself I was born and raised on the east side of Cleveland. I attended Antioch College and got my Bachelors in Fine Art, with a focus on ceramics. After completing college I moved to Tanzania for 16 years, where I co-founded a children's rights and residential care program for street children. I gained my Masters in Education and started teaching at the international school in Arusha, Tanzania in January 2004 until June 2011. I returned to Ohio with my three children to enter a PhD program in Cultural Foundation at Kent State University - my focus is Comparative and International Education, and I will complete my dissertation in the coming months!
What do you like to do when you are not working? I am an avid yoga practitioner, waking at 5:00 a.m. every day to start my day with yoga. I also love to spend time outdoors, hiking in all the Metroparks in our area. Being a mom means I spend a lot of time at baseball games, ballet lessons, horse shows and hanging out with my kids. In the summer, we spend a lot of time at the pool, soaking in the warmth and sunshine before we are confined to indoors again. As a family we love all the great museums Cleveland has to offer and spend our weekends visiting and revisiting these great options. I love to read and even with the demands of being a teacher and working on my PhD, I read for pleasure every day.

Thank you Sherwin-Williams! One June 23, over 90 employees from the Sherwin-Williams Diversified Brands division spent the entire day painting classrooms, hallways, and stairways at GALA, for their annual Technical Summit day. Technical Summit Day is used to celebrate and share technical achievements over the past year, build relationships within the division, team building, and community service. GALA is so grateful to have support from Sherwin-Williams. After receiving two paint days from Sherwin-Williams (May 6 and June 23), GALA's entire school building from top to bottom has been repainted for free!
