Family Faces Around GALA
GALA is excited to introduce the family of Charlize Tonk!
What grade and program is your child enrolled in?
Charlize "Charlie" Tonk is in the kindergarten Mandarin program (Panda Class).  Next year, her brother, Jayce, will also be enrolled.

Why are you excited about GALA?
We know that bilingualism is an experience that can positively impact Charlie and Jayce's lives in numerous ways, and immersion has proven itself to be the the most effective school-based method for learning a second language. We are so grateful that GALA has offered this wonderful opportunity to the children of Northeast Ohio in time for Charlie and Jayce to take advantage of it, and that they do it with such heart and passion!
The administration, staff and teachers at GALA are very dedicated and truly care about the well-being, education and happiness of every student.  Charlie's teacher, Huang Laoshi, makes sure the kids enjoy the learning process by incorporating songs, dance, games and art into the curriculum.  It's amazing to see how quickly Charlie is learning Mandarin and how much fun she is having doing it!

Tell us about yourself
We live in Brunswick, which is about 30-40 minutes away from GALA but well worth the drive! Charlie and Jayce spend part of the time with their mother, Monica.  When Monica is working night shift as a sleep technician at Cleveland Clinic, the kids stay around the corner with their dad, aunt, grandparents, great-grandparents and two dogs in a multi-generational and multiracial house full of chaos and love.

What is your family's favorite thing to do in Cleveland?
The kids love to go to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, and the Rain Forest is a great place to go during the cold winter months.

Share your favorite quote/proverb.
Our family motto is, "Be supportive of each other."
