Celebrating Black History Month
Students at GALA have been celebrating Black History all month long, including learning about artists, civil rights activists, inventors, and leaders in our own community. During our celebrations, students were visited by nurse Barbara Rogers, who came to speak to them about the importance of celebrating Black History Month, the Cleveland Council of Black Nurses, her role as a nurse, and how a team can work together to save a life!

March Open House
Students and families interested in enrolling are invited to attend an upcoming open house on Thursday, March 16, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.  or Saturday, March 18, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. to learn more about attending the 2017 - 2018 school year, tour the school, and meet members of GALA.  Register to attend at:

Staff & Family Faces Around GALA
GALA is excited to introduce the King Family!  Jeanine King is both a parent and substitute teacher at GALA.

Why are you excited about teaching at GALA?
I first was excited to teach at GALA so that I could get more in depth knowledge of what was going on in my son's educational environment and to figure out how I could help him as a parent.  Additionally, I am excited about teaching the kids because they amaze me each and every day with their knowledge.  Even though I speak Spanish to the kids in the classroom, some of them still manage to correct the words I might be using and that is AWESOME!

Why are you excited about teaching at GALA?
Initially, I intended on homeschooling our son Brexton.  When my husband and I heard about the language immersion option, we decided to check the school out and see if we might be interested in such a unique program for our son.  Beyond the language immersion, we feel like GALA is like it's own little community and that our goal as parents and staff is to see each and every student achieve success and for each and every home that is represented to feel valued and part of a team.

What grade and program is your child enrolled in?
Our son, Brexton, is currently enrolled in the kindergarten Spanish program.

Tell us about yourself
I never thought that I would be working with or teaching children.  My background is in Marketing, Sales, Leadership Training and Quality/Compliance.  Several years ago, I began working with children at an after school program and have been working with kids ever since. Prior to GALA, I quit working full time to home-school my son. I place a high value on having joy for what I am doing and why I am doing it.

What is your family's favorite thing to do in Cleveland?
Our family LOVES the outdoors.  We love hiking especially and spend a lot of time in the Cleveland Metroparks; they have so many cool trails and sights.
