Lab Monitor Applications Open | Spring 2020

The Department of Visual Art is looking for applications from qualified students to work in the labs/studios for the Spring 2020 semester. Areas include Book Arts, Darkroom, Digital Print Lab, Foundation Studio, Painting, and Printmaking. Apply here.

Juried Student Exhibition | Submissions Open
Mon. Nov 11 - Sun. Jan 26

Submissions for the 40th Annual Juried Student Exhibition open Monday, November 11 and close on Sunday, January 26. All media encouraged, and all currently enrolled Brown University students eligible. The exhibition will be on view in the Granoff Center for Creative Arts from February 26 until March 20. Submit work online here

Spring Gallery Lottery

There is a required lottery meeting that all VA Senior Concentrators must attend. Daniel Stupar will be overseeing your senior show lottery for your Senior Capstone Thesis Exhibition and we want to make sure you are present to confirm and secure the date for your show next semester. This is an exciting final show for all of you so be sure to meet with your advisor soon to complete the planning process. If you cannot attend, contact Daniel before 11/15 - you’ll need to send someone in your place.

Luscious: Paintings and Drawing by Wendy Edwards | Opening Reception & Converation

Wendy Edwards’ paintings combine luscious colors and exuberant gestures in compositions that respond to the artist’s life and vary from landscapes and still lifes to pure abstraction. This forty-year retrospective includes works created since 1980, when Edwards joined Brown’s faculty. 5:30pm conversation with Wendy Edwards and Ruth Fine, 6:30-7:30pm reception.

The Department of the History of Art and Architecture and the Center for Contemporary South Asia present an artist talk by Michael Rakowitz who will discuss his recent food-related projects, and his new cookbook: A House with a Date Palm Will Never Starve: Cooking with Date Syrup: Forty-One Chefs and an Artist Create New and Classic Dishes with a Traditional Middle Eastern Ingredient. A book signing and reception featuring Syrian snacks follow the talk.

Telescope Observing Night | Ladd Observatory

Ladd Observatory, 210 Doyle Ave

View the moon, planets, and stars through the telescope at Brown’s historic Ladd Observatory. Experience astronomy as it was practiced in the 1890s. See our exhibits and displays about the history of science and technology. Weather permitting.
