Vanessa German | Virtual Artist Talk
Wed. Mar 24, 5pm EDT

Vanessa German is a visual and performance artist based in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Homewood. Homewood is the community that is the driving force behind German’s powerful performance work, and whose cast-off relics form the language of her copiously embellished sculptures. As a citizen artist, German explores the power of art and love as a transformative force in the dynamic cultural ecosystem of communities and neighborhoods. She is the founder of Love Front Porch and the ARThouse, a community arts initiative for the children of Homewood.
Registration opens Tues, Mar. 9.

VA Gives

Wendy V. Edwards Painting Fund

We are so thankful for the outpouring of support we received in honor of Wendy Edwards, Professor Emerita of Visual Art, who retired this past spring from Brown after forty years of dedicated service. A passionate supporter of arts education and an inspiring figure on College Hill, Professor Emerita Edwards is greatly missed.

To honor Professor Emerita Edwards’ legacy at Brown, the Department of Visual Art established the Wendy Edwards Painting Fund in November 2019, with a goal of raising $100,000. Due to the efforts of our loyal alumni and friends, we have raised $56,775 to date! Once the additional $43,225 is raised, the fund will provide support for the students of the Department of Visual Art in perpetuity as an endowed fund, in the name of Professor Emerita Edwards.

Please join us in making a gift in celebration of Professor Emerita Edwards and her time at Brown. This fund will serve as a lasting reminder of her commitment to her students and her craft.

To make a gift online, follow the
link here, check the box for “other” and fill in the designation field as “Wendy Edwards Painting Supply Current-Use Fund.” To make a gift by check or money order, follow these instructions, designating your gift on the memo line as “Wendy Edwards Painting Supply Current-Use Fund.”

If you have questions about making a gift, please contact
Jeffrey Cabral, Senior Director of Development for the Brown Arts Initiative.
Thank you for your support.

Studio Monitor Hours & Building Access During Non-class Times
Studio Monitor Hours give students enrolled in hybrid VISA courses the opportunity to work in studios outside of class time. The following studios will staff a monitor during Studio Monitor Hours: Black + White Darkroom, Book Arts Studio, Painting Studio, and Sculpture Studio on Sunday-Wednesday from 6pm-11pm. A monitor will not be staffed for the Digital Print Lab/Lighting Studio, Printmaking Studio, and Foundations Studios for the Spring '21 semester. Students enrolled in hybrid courses, senior Honors students, and certain ISP students may use the labs and studios outside of Lab Monitor Hours anytime from 7am-11pm Monday-Friday. Everyone must leave the building no later than 11pm. Certain equipment and machinery will be off limits and locked down when there is not a lab monitor present.
