Math + Art | Panel Discussion

Please join us at ICERM to enjoy this third in a series of five panel discussions on Math + Art. These discussions feature participants in ICERM’s Illustrating Mathematics Fall 2019 program, artists, and RISD faculty. The panels focus on the different ways in which artists and mathematicians approach mathematical concepts. We expect a dynamic conversation that will spark continued dialogue and future collaborations.

Consuelo Jimenez Underwood | Artist Talk

In “First Series A.G.” Consuelo Jimenez Underwood reflects on her artistic trajectory after graduate school. Focusing on her Heroes: Burial Shroud Series she goes back in time to the individuals who have affected her travels and art making practice since childhood. She will also introduce the new installation work that she has created at the Sarah Doyle Center. The audience is invited to the opening reception of Exposing Unseen Boundaries immediately following the lecture.

Cory Henry + the Funk Apostles | Workshop

Participants in the BAI’s weekly songwriting workshop receive feedback about their compositions from funk masters Cory Henry and his band. This public forum is open to everyone else as audience members. Co-presented by Department of Music and Brown Arts Initiative.

Anooradha Iyer Siddiqi | Architectural Remnants of Land and Emergency

Anooradha Iyer Siddiqi, Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture at Barnard College, will present her lecture Architectural Remnants of Land and Emergency as the first talk in the History of Art and Architecture's On Speculation series.

Brendan Fernandes | Visiting Artist Talk

Brendan Fernandes (b. 1979, Nairobi, Kenya) is an internationally recognized Canadian artist working at the intersection of dance and visual arts. Currently based out of Chicago, Brendan’s projects address issues of race, queer culture, migration, protest and other forms of collective movement. Always looking to create new spaces and new forms of agency, Brendan’s projects take on hybrid forms: part Ballet, part queer dance hall, part political protest…always rooted in collaboration and fostering solidarity. Register for tickets here.

Call for Art | The Dean of the College
The Dean of the College Office seeks original student and staff artwork of all genres for display in the public corridors on the second floor of University Hall. We are looking for community work to help inspire students, staff, and visitors in the College space either permanently or rotating basis. Submissions of original artwork in all genres are welcome. Submissions may be made by students, staff or faculty members. More info here.

Design Position | Department of Education
The Department of Education is looking to hire an undergraduate student for approximately 10-15 hours who has advanced InDesign skills to create flyers and postcard templates for department use.  If interested, please contact the department manager

Fellowship | The Swearer Center

The Edward Guiliano ‘72 Global Fellowship seeks to provide undergraduate students with transformative opportunities to broaden their perspectives and interact with the world through artistic, academic and cultural experiences outside their current communities.


Juried Exhibition | Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts
Deadline: Thurs. Oct 31
Crosscurrents is a juried show that features the work of talented undergraduates from academic institutions across the country. Currently enrolled college and art school juniors and seniors, as well as recent alumni who are not enrolled in MFA programs, may apply. Selected artists will show work in a curated exhibition at PAFA's museum, and one artist will be chosen to receive a full-tuition scholarship to attend PAFA's MFA program. This year's exhibition jurors are Kevin Richards, Eileen Neff, and Addison Namnoum. More info
