Brendan Fernandes | Visiting Artist Talk

Brendan Fernandes (b. 1979, Nairobi, Kenya) is an internationally recognized Canadian artist working at the intersection of dance and visual arts. Currently based out of Chicago, Brendan’s projects address issues of race, queer culture, migration, protest and other forms of collective movement. Always looking to create new spaces and new forms of agency, Brendan’s projects take on hybrid forms: part Ballet, part queer dance hall, part political protest…always rooted in collaboration and fostering solidarity. Register for free tickets here.

Jayna Zweiman '01 | Cultivating Creative Expression

How can we leverage the power of art to create design interventions for social change? How can art help us reimagine our spaces and systems? Join Jayna Zweiman ‘01, co-founder of the Pussyhat Project and the Welcome Blanket, for an interview with Danny Warshay ‘87, P’20, P’23, executive director of the Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship. In their discussion, Zweiman will discuss how she started two design interventions, how the power of storytelling enables change, and how crafts can intersect with politics. Please RSVP here.

View the moon, planets, and stars through the telescope at Brown’s historic Ladd Observatory. Experience astronomy as it was practiced in the 1890s. See our exhibits and displays about the history of science and technology. Weather permitting. Repeats weekly until Dec. 17.

Coco Fusco | In Conversation

Performance artist and BAI Professor of the Practice Coco Fusco leads a panel discussion entitled Independent Culture in Cuba Today: A Challenge for the Makers and a Challenge to the State. Joining her to examine Cuban art, culture and politics is journalist and writer Carlos Manuel Álvarez, feature and documentary filmmaker Miguel Coyula Aquino, and trans-disciplinary artist and social researcher Henry Eric Hernández. Presented by Brown Arts Initiative.

We are currently accepting submissions for our fall edition and welcome new artists and writers to submit! We accept all forms of digital, visual, and literary art.
