Learn It, Live It, Teach It… on Kaurna Land
EESSA Inc is bringing you another great event at the Adelaide Pavilion on Saturday 11th September 2021 1-5pm. Further develop your understanding of the traditional owners of the Adelaide area, what it means to be learning on Kaurna land and how this links with pedagogy.
Kaurna Land
Ivan Tiwu Copley
Ivan will provide the welcome to country and  help us explore the history and traditions of the local area and the Kaurna people.
Kaurna Language
Kaurna Warra Karrpanthi Aboriginal Corporation
Our speaker from (KWK) - will talk about the revival of the Kaurna Language and resources available to further your learning and to use in your education programs.

Drew Kilner & Quahli Newchurch  
Qualhi and Drew were part of a three-day Cultural burn camp for Kaurna led by Victor Steffensen in May this year. They will share their experience of the first Cultural burn in Adelaide in over 200 years.
Traditional weaving and the importance of Cultural practices
Clem Newchurch
Clem’s artwork and his reason for pursuing traditional practices tie in with sustainability and his belief that his Old People’s complex way of life was the most balanced and sustainable way of life possible. He will touch on bush foods, environment, land, and Culture and showcase some of his artwork.
Critical pedagogy of place, Truth-telling, and going beyond tokenism
Liesl von der Borch
As a non-Indigenous educator, researcher, and co-founder of ‘Walking Together with Kaurna – Cultural Experiences for Children’ Liesl seeks to augment Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander curriculum opportunities in schools, with place-based connections and on Country experiences.
