Next EAFT Board meeting in Zagreb

25th August an ordinary meeting of the EAFT Board will take place in Zagreb. Among other topics, the agenda includes the organization of the VIII International Terminology Summit, the results of the EAFT Awards, our 20th anniversary and the planning for the forthcoming GA.
 
If you have any particular ideas for the Summit or you want any particular issue to be addressed at this Board meeting, please contact the EAFT Secretariat (term@eaft-aet.net).

VIII EAFT Terminology Summit (2016). Registration open


EAFT, in collaboration with TermCoord, is organizing the Eighth Terminology Summit in Luxembourg on November 14-15, 2016.
 
In 2016, EAFT celebrates its 20th anniversary and it is also a Summit year. Therefore, the Summit will be a good opportunity to go back and look forward at the same time, to present both revisions of the themes of earlier Summits (to see what has happened since then) and visions of where terminology needs to go from here.

The overall topic for the summit is: Visions and revisions. The Summit will have 8 sessions which summarize the themes of the earlier Summits:
 
Session 1 COOPERATION & COLLABORATION
Session 2 SOCIAL MEDIA
Session 3 QUALITY MATTERS
Session 4 RESPONSIBILITY AND AWARENESS
Session 5 INTERACTION and DIVERSITY
Session 6 TERMINOLOGY PROFILE
Session 7 TERMINOLOGY: STATE OF THE ART/DOMAIN LOSS
Session 8 BRUSSELS DECLARATION
 
Each session will contain at least one revision and one vision related to its theme. Some areas which might appear to be missing from the above (e.g. terminology training, terminology research, terminology standardization, terminology management, terminology tools) are in fact not missing, but rather they could appear in several of the sessions.
 
There will also be open sessions addressed to those professionals who want to share their experiences on these themes in a set time.

EAFT General Assembly 2016

The EAFT GA will take place on November 14  in conjunction with the Summit. We encourage all EAFT members to actively participate in the GA.
 
During the last GA it was suggested it would be useful to receive information for the newsletter from member terminology bodies/organizations concerning their regular annual or biennial meetings or assemblies.
 
Please send us the information related to your annual or biennial meetings/assemblies, thereby helping us to establish the list for 2016 and 2017.

TOTh 2016 - workshop. Call for abstracts: new deadline

The TOTh workshop will take place on 25 November at the University of Paris-Sorbonne (Paris) under the title Neology in terminology.

Fish names

The online dictionary, Noms de peixos (“Fish names”), is a descriptive work elaborated by Jordi Lleonart, with TERMCAT’s terminological advice and the collaboration of the Biology Section of the Institute for Catalan Studies. It is complemented by the online dictionary Noms de mamífers marins ('Marine mammal names').

The dictionary includes more than 5.200 Catalan fish names corresponding to 1.400 scientific names, referred to the field of icthyology, presented in 520 terminological entries referred to zoological taxa, with the documentation sources. Each entry gathers the Catalan denominations, the equivalents in Spanish, English and French, sometimes also in German, Italian and Portuguese, and the scientific name. It also features some notes with information about the origins and uses of Catalan names.

The European Association for Terminology is a non-profit professional organisation for the terminology sector in Europe. It is designed to further plurilingualism through terminology, to provide a European platform for promoting and professionalising terminological activities and improving awareness of them, and to liaise and cooperate actively with relevant organisations, associations and institutions.
