Quarts Embetumats Inca: a dessert with history
Made on the basis of a very light, fluffy, almost air cake for his levity, filling and topped with meringue egg yolk and covered with chocolate.
Their preparation dates back to the XIXth century. A curious anecdote, told by the then president of the Council of Ministers, the Spaniard Antoni Maura I Muntaner, involves King Alfonso XIII. On a visit to Palma on 25th April 1902, King Alfonso XIII could taste them and liked them so much he wanted to know where they were produced; They told him in Cas Donat (currently No. 16 Concepció Street) and the king visited the bakery and named the owner, surnamed Miralles, supplier of the Royal House. Years later, during the organization of a banquet, he remembered those "Quartos Embetumats" and telegraphed the Civil Governor to send him lots of them for his guests. But the officials in the Civil Government were not native and in a hurry figuring out what the King wanted. Finally, this reached the ears of the confectioner Cas Donat, who prepared hundreds of this “Quarts Embetumats", requested by the King.
