Attractive Nordic Towns

SMALL TOWNS SOLVING BIG PROBLEMS

The Nordic Council of Ministers and Chora Connection are co-facilitating a workshop at Cop23 in Bonn November 11 from 10 am-11.30 am.

The workshop is based on the ‘The Attractive Towns Network” co-initiated by three norwegian ministries.

The network is supposed to promote Nordic competitiveness, green redevelopment, the transition to a low-emission society, integration and a good environment for public health.

We invite everyone to join us in an inspiring co-creation session on how small and medium sized towns can become the pioneers on climate change & sustainable development.

Nordic Attractive Towns and Regions will be represented by Ystad, Levanger, Växjö and Hamar, at Cop 23.

About ‘The Attractive Nordic Towns Network’:

Norway holds the presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2017 and one of its main priorities is “The Nordic Countries in Transition”. The presidency project: "Attractive Nordic Towns - green redevelopment and competitiveness in Nordic urban regions. Towns that provide a good life for all”, is one of several initiatives to promote Nordic competitiveness, green redevelopment, the transition to a low-emission society, integration and a good environment for public health.

The aim of the project is to shed light on challenges and possibilities in small and medium-sized Nordic towns.

The goal of the project “Nordic Attractive Towns” is to prepare a joint Nordic strategy for how towns and their surrounding areas can become more attractive through the development of vibrant and inclusive urban environments that are economically, environmentally and socially sustainable.

The project consists of four subprojects:

  • Mapping, development and use of methods to measure urban qualities and sustainability
  • Share knowledge between Nordic decision makers, administration and cademic communities
  • Contribution to handling complex decision making challenges in urban regions
  • A common Nordic strategy for attractive and inclusive urban environments
