New Beginnings

A big Texas sized welcome to

  • Brahmacharini Shuchita Chaitanya who will be the resident spiritual guide of Chinmaya Mission Austin along with Swami Shivatmananda.  ShuchitaJi was given Brahmacarya Diksha during Navaratri 2019 after an intense  two year Vendanta course under the tutelage of Swami BodhatmanandaJi.  ShuchitaJi was a bala vihar student in Orlando, a Chyk member in Houston as well as Dallas, and completed YEP America (Batch Two). She has organized and conducted camps and retreats for various age groups across college, professional and mission organizations.

  • ShuchitaJi graduated from Austin College with a degree in Spanish & Biology. She then completed Master of Public Health from University of Texas School of Public Health, Houston. She has worked in the research and teaching fields.

She is immensely grateful for the opportunity to serve Gurudev Pujya Swami Chinmayananda Ji through conducting classes and spreading the joy of the timeless knowledge of Vedanta. ShuchitaJi enjoys listening to live music, going for walks, and discussing the application and understanding of Vedanta in our daily lives.

  • Ravi Kumar Chavali  who has come from Vishakapatanam, Andhra Pradesh to join the Chinmaya Mission Austin family as the resident temple priest.  RaviJi came just in time to be part of the Navaratri pujas and celebrations.

RaviJi has worked as archak and pradhana archak for temples in Visakhapatanam for several years and is well versed in various homas, puja, vratams and sanskara pujas.

Please do stop by to say Hari Om! and welcome them into our family. To help them settle in and meet families, please do sign up for lunch or dinner Bhiksha and get to know Brni. ShuchitaJi and Pundit RaviJi.

Diwali Celebrations

  • Diwali Annadanam Sponsorship - October 27th:  Let's celebrate Diwali together at Sundaram with food and festivities like all good families do! You have the opportunity to facilitate this by sponsoring lunch Annadanam for our CMA family on Sunday, Oct 27th. In the Vedic tradition, Annadaanam is considered the highest form of Daanam (giving).  Thank you to all the families that have already pitched in - your generosity is greatly appreciated. A few more sponsorships will help make our Diwali feast a reality! You are welcome to contribute at whatever level works for you. Or you can invite friends to join in and contribute as a group - it takes many drops to fill a bucket!
Sundaram Updates

  • Lunch for UT Students - Sunday:  A group of  students, studying at UT, come each Sunday to offer their seva as co-teachers in the bala vihar classes.  Many of your children are learning from them and are building relationships with great role models.  Let us give back by providing them with a warm and timely lunch so that they can go back to their studies and have a great start to their week.  Please do sign up to bring a simple meal for about 10 - 12 students.   Instructions are provided in the sign up form.  If you have any additional questions, please contact Sandhya Bitra.

  • Food Bank Seva Opportunity -  Thank you to all who came out and sorted food at the Central Texas Food Bank.  We have one more session on October 19, 2019 from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
Check-in time is 30 minutes before the shift is scheduled to start. For safety reasons, volunteers who arrive more than 30 minutes late will not be allowed to join their group for the shift.
