Blessed Self,

Hari OM and Namaste!

THOUGHTS:

Meditation - Preparing the Inner Personality - By Swami Chinmayananda!

To make this contemplation effective, the inner personality is to be prepared. These preparations are called bahya sadhana. When working and functioning in the world, the constant remembrance of the goal should be maintained in the mind. Instead of allowing an arrogant ego to override us, we should perform all duties in a spirit of surrender unto Him, ever acting as His instrument. Thus, the pure mind is identified with Him, and the agitations exhaust themselves.

For such a karmayogi it becomes easier to come to the seat of meditation with the right mental mood. Be firmly convinced that we are not trying to see something, to experience something, or to become something. We are trying to lift ourselves into a new dimension of existence where we are going to be what we are, not what we consider ourselves to be today - the wrappings of matter.

Developing attitudes of love, forgiveness, humility, surrender in our relationships with others, performing rituals, and practicing moral and ethical values - all these practices contribute to success in the seat of meditation. Once the mind is thus prepared, it is then applied in contemplation. We must reorient our entire attitude to life. It is not a state of dull stupor, but it is a ripened, positive state of Being, b whose grace the mind and intellect's expressions are possible.

The contemplative path is the product of a normal, healthy, dynamic life, not a sluggish, idle, and unproductive existence. Plenty of love, a quantum of work - calmest to a suicidal degree - should be undertaken with the right attitude of pure love and devotion to the Self. Through intelligent study, regular practice, reflection, and discussing these matters with similar hearts, we train the mind.

Try to fulfill duties as best as you know how, and learn to let go of what you cannot. Underneath the sorrows and tensions of existence, vasanas (inherent tendencies) are functioning in their field. But keep in mind, 'I am the Consciousness illumining them all.' With this attitude, let them pass; never take them too seriously. When our life is thus focused toward the Higher, in a very short time, experiences of the Higher flood the soul

The one in sleep is drowned in the darkness of ignorance; the one in samadhi is in the sunshine of Knowledge!
