Message from UNY Chapter President

Dear Fellow Spanish Teachers,
I hope you are getting back into the swing of things this fall.  I am still trying to memorize my new students' names!  I know it is can be a tedious process to get your classes just the way you want them.  Just try to see your students for what they can become, rather that what they are right now.
I would like to invite you to get more acquainted with AATSP and your local chapter.  Both locally and nationally, AATSP works to provide teachers and students with resources to assist in the teaching and learning of Spanish.
The Upstate NY Chapter offers a variety of activities designed to promote students progress.  One example is our Chicos Charlando activities where students from the area get together to speak Spanish. They really enjoy the opportunity to speak with other kids other than the ones they always work with in class!
We also believe that teachers need opportunities to get together and relax, speak Spanish, and enjoy the language and culture.  For this, we arrange Tertulias where we get together, eat, drink, speak Spanish, and enjoy the language and culture!  No students...just us!
These are just two examples of how the UNY Chapter tries to provide resources for students and teachers alike.  This year, please take advantage of the services UNY Chapter and AATSP offer.
Have a GREAT school year!!
Gary Barnard

Come immerse yourself in Spanish with other Spanish speakers in beautiful Lake George!  This is not like your typical conference, but more of a weekend filled with fun and relaxation, organized and sponsored by members of the upstate chapter of AATSP.  We have activities planned for eating, dancing, hiking, yoga, food demonstrations and even massage.  We are very excited for this event, as it was well received last year, and hope you will join us for this fun filled weekend.
