Dear Postdocs,

Next week is National Postdoc Appreciation Week (NPAW)! It's the time of year when Stony Brook and other institutions across the U.S. celebrate the important contributions of our postdocs to the research enterprise.

NPAW is about celebrating YOU and the contributions you make to U.S. research and discovery. Check out videos of appreciation for postdocs here

This year, you can join the first nation-wide, multi-institutional effort to bring NPAW programming to you. At Stony Brook, we're holding a virtual scavenger hunt and social for our SBU postdocs on Thursday, September 24, from 6-7pm, and an information session on our next postdoc-to-postdoc career development group from the PhD Career Ladder Program on Tuesday, September 22nd at 6:30pm. Then, there is a schedule of multiple events from other institutions every day that week!

We hope you'll join in the celebration!

Here are some suggestions for making 2020 NPAW a good experience for yourself and others:

  • Refrain from comments that are unwelcome or offensive to members of the community. This is true for acts or comments that demean another person for any reason, but particularly of gender, gender identity or expression, race, religion, ethnicity, age or physical ability.

  • Mute your microphones unless you are invited to speak by moderators or hosts of the event.

  • Type questions for speakers into the chat or Q&A window, if one is available.

  • Please be patient in the event of technical difficulties and interruptions.

  • Please be punctual, and give yourself time to set up your personal equipment to verify your connection.

Lastly, don’t forget to keep your NPA membership updated. Watch this video for step-by-step instructions on how to join the NPA, sign up for a free affiliate membership using your institutional email address and join with our institutional membership
