Pastor's Perspective

I began my sermon on Sunday by quoting an interesting factoid I discovered on the internet while researching my sermon. In a study of 200,000 ostriches over a period of 80 years, no one reported a single case where an ostrich buried its head in the sand or attempted to do so. I give you this pretty useless fact to frame our discussion of a pretty controversial story in Sunday's gospel text; just because someone says something doesn’t make it real. Perhaps that why I love preaching on the parables of Jesus. Let’s face it, Jesus told some really outlandish stories that don’t seem to make much sense in our contemporary society.   READ MORE

ALL ARE WELCOME
"Let Us Build a House Where Hands Will Reach"

Sacred Story: Matthew 25:31-46
Focus Verse: Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.
Human Need: We want to do good out of a desire to help others and ourselves.
Community Challenge: Jesus’ teaching tells us that the good will enter the kingdom and the bad will head to the eternal garbage dump. The criterion for this final decision will depend on how we have treated ‘the least of these.’
Personal Response: That we will recognize ourselves as being implicated in God’s judgment as both good and bad, and recognizing with fear the degree to which we’re rotten but not discarded.
The Interfaith Thanksgiving Service and Psalm Concert this past Sunday, November 19 at The Temple Congregation Ohabai Sholom was an amazing event! Over 400 folks gathered from a dozen faith communities in West Nashville, including Jewish, Christian and Islamic congregations. The event included songs and readings from all the Abrahamic faiths. Twenty Holy Trinity folks attended and the hospitality and fellowship was warm and inviting. We look forward to participating in a bigger way in 2018!
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

We continue our appreciation of church folks who provide ministry to our visitors through HTCC's Greeting ministry. Seeing the smiles of Levi Detweiler and Allexander Martinez at the front doors of our welcome center brightens the day of many visitors and regular attendees who walk through our church doors. Thank you Levi and Allex for making HTCC a welcoming place. You guys are special to us!
